LSU is my favorite trip. I hate to call what they do tailgating because it is more like a combination of state fair, mardi gras, block party and the 4th of July. Have never had a bad experience and wife and I have been going nearly 30 years.

Ole Miss. We had a great time pregame and kicked arse during the game. 2 for 1 deal, 2 wins on 1 day

i've been to almost all sec road games for LSU (aside from USC, Texas A&M and Mizzou)...had a great time at Auburn, Ole Miss, Bama and UGA.

In terms of towns, Oxford and Athens take the cake. For stadium atmosphere UF and AUburn (when they're good)are the best. For tailgating, Auburn,Bama,UGA and Ole Miss were all really fun.

Worst fans are Bama and Kentucky by far.

Worst overall experience...Starkville/Miss St. I've been twice and I just dont think I can make myself go back.

A lot of people's opinions can be when they went to a certain place. The LSU-Bama stuff has gotten more "intense" over last several years. We had a rough stretch for just a few years with Auburn fans during some of the Tubberville years ( that whole thing was stupid and glad both sides got over it pretty quickly),

Went again in '11 and it was a white trash convention.
I've had a blast every time I've went to Ttown, but the atmosphere for the "game of the century" was a bit of a letdown. We moved our seats into the lower bowl just to get the most out of it but it was still a letdown.

Can't wait for Ttown again this year though

Probably one of the biggest campus changes in the SEC since those years. Mainly because we started from so low while other campus had already reached their "peak". You have to see Starkville these days. A lot of people talk shite and call it a shite hole, but a good bit of unbiased fans will tell you that the campus is very beautiful. It's hard for other fans to have a good time (late night) because a lot of the night life is centered around Greek and college aged students.

That was why I made sure that I said that I haven't been back in a long time. Most of my roadtrips were from the late 90s and early 2000s. The only roadtrips that I have made in the last 5 years have been Bama, UGA and Clemson.

I appreciate the fact that you did. You should definitely see the progress the Campus and the city as well has made over the past decade. You probably won't even recognize anything.

I've only been to 3 road games (UGA, UT and UK); haven't been to an SEC West stadium yet.

Favorite by far: UT, for the most part great fans and tailgating atmosphere next to the river but stadium is too cramped.

Worst: UGA by far, been twice and both times the fans were awful.

UK was ok, nothing bad nothing great.

Best SEC Football Roadtrip

Based on my experiences -

LSU - Just a great time, a little spread out but a badass time nonethless

UGA- wish they still tailgaited on NC

Bama - The strip is badass on gameday

Athens is great, but the drive is miserable from south LA. Mobile to Montgomery, then Montgomery to Atlanta are two awful stretches of interstate.

Never been to Athens and wanted to go for the LSU game this year, but it's just too far/expensive for me to pull off during the semester.

My plans are now to go to the grove this year. I'm requesting free booze, free food and good looking women otherwise i might have to watch the football game.

I haven't been to all but so far this is my list:

1. Tuscaloosa
2. Gainesville
3. Knoxville
4. Auburn
5. Moo St. - probably the worst I have been to, but it was raining and the game was played on Thursday or Friday. They would not let us on campus until like 3:00 and we had to drink from solo cups because canned beer in the open was some sort of cardinal sin on Moo St's campus. We stayed in some shite hole hotel (looked much better online) about 45 minutes from campus and the only entertainment we found was the Golden Moon Casino.

Best - UGA

USC has typically not been among the best but w/in the past 3 years has improved drastically. I felt some genuine pride last year at the new Farmer's Market tailgating area w/ my UGA friends. They were impressed, too.

I agree with you, however, that's because everyone who has ever heard of college football was in town for that game.

Though I'll never do it because I enjoy the in-stadium experience so much, tailgating in Tuscaloosa, among other places in the SEC (Athens, Baton Rouge, Oxford especially) have become so renowned and fun, that just coming to campus, tailgating, and then watching the game at the tailgate/at a local bar, is an experience worth traveling for.

The 2012 Alabama-LSU game differed greatly from when I went back in 2008 for the same reason.

With that said, I've been to just about every campus with the exception of Arkansas, South Carolina, and the 2 Newbies for an Alabama game. In no particular order, here are some of my favorites:

Athens The bar scene is just about as good as it gets anywhere. The Friday night was almost as much fun as the game the next day. Since they stopped tailgating on North Campus, the "typical experience" is just average. But who cares? The bars, again, are awesome. Can't believe we last visited in 2008--this has to change soon.

Baton Rouge Winner of the "best food" category. Never had a problem with their fans, and can honestly say, they are some of the friendliest I've been around. The Parade grounds for a big game has a lot of energy, and the Stadium at night is the loudest in college football.

Oxford It's exactly what you hear about on here--the town is beautiful, the bars are fun, the girls are smokin', and the Grove is an A+ tailgate experience. They care about their team, but you can tell years of "meh" football has worn on them, leading to the Stadium (which NEEDS renovation) to not be the most exuberant place to watch a game.

Starkville Probably the shocker of the group, Starkville is a pretty decent time. The cotton district has enough bars to make any 2 day trip fun, and the Junction has become a very decent place to tailgate. The cowbells do get annoying, but if you only experience it once every two years, it can be a cool sight to see. DWS has great sightlines, but is by far the quietest of any of the SEC stadiums I've been to.

Auburn Auburn, like Starkville, is just not my personal cup of tea. However, they have an interesting campus, and a very loud stadium. JHS is not going to win any vanity contests, but they have a loud crowd, intense environment, and a true passion for football. Hit up sky bar or Supper Club for drinking--overall, a decent stop.

Kentucky Lexington itself is worth the trip. Beautiful horse country, and if you have a day to kill, do the Bourbon trail through all of the distilleries. You'll probably find a great bourbon that will become your tailgate buddy like mine (Four Roses, Small batch). The town is a lot of fun, and the tailgating is sufficient. The stadium is actually pretty decent in size, but is one of the least impressive in terms of gameday facilities.

Florida It's a culture shock compared to the rest of the south, but is truly a great in-stadium experience. The bar scene is pretty fun, and the attire the girls wear is enough to keep you entertained through kick-off. Very loud stadium, but they talk more trash than any other fanbase in the SEC.

Tennessee The stadium when the team is competitive is a great homefield advantage. However, the stadium has the smallest seats I've ever sat in. Seriously, ever. The Knoxville bar scene is good, and if you are lucky enough to tailgate on the "Vol Navy" (The ships that dock near the stadium on the Tennessee River), it is an experience you'll never forget.

Vanderbilt Like Kentucky, the trip is made great by the town, rather than the game itself. The stadium is small, so every seat is good. Try to hit up the midtown bars like "Winners" and "Losers" to avoid the tourist crowd. Nashville is a great town, and you'll probably leave with a win.
