While this article has more to do with specifically gay-tolerance in the South, it could also (and alludes to) any type of tolerance.

Essentially he's saying that the North should stop treating the South as if we're terrible people down here, because that's simply not the least bit true.

quote:

I'm from Hueytown, Alabama. It's smack dab in the middle of Dixie, so it's fine if I say something about the south -- it's part of me. But these loaded questions from people who've never been there -- where do these ideas come from?

The truth is, I do have all my teeth. I wear shoes (almost) on a daily basis. The south has paved roads including the busiest tractor-trailer route in the country, Highway 78. The south has a sordid past, but no -- to set the record straight, southerners don't hate black people. Though there are still pockets of the south where the KKK resides, I never saw them in person. I am gay, and I couldn't have picked a better place to grow up than Hueytown.

To be fair, I think the sentiment that "Yankees look down upon Southerners" is as accurate as "Southerners are intolerant".

I enjoy the south tons better than I do the north. It's a much happier and laid back place

I disagree. I've seen/heard time and again Yankees denigrating southerners because we're sooo stupid. These are the same people who choose to move down here because it's nicer and has a lower cost of living. I absolutely despise driving through East TN and seeing Ohio an Michigan plates.

I visited New York and Boston and every thing I did felt scheduled, even when it wasn't. They're very nice cities, but the rush of everyone makes me feel less important. Could be really depressing if you aren't tough minded.

I could not care less what some Yankee thinks about me or where I live.

We are all just boogers in the nose of life.

All the comments are from left wing Yankees who've never lived in the South.

They keep calling us racist and that we need to be more progressive

It is hilarious.

Huffington post is a painful read no matter what it is, but I was hoping for some positives from this article. All it lead to was a bunch of northern Liberals turning it into a political discussion.

Everything in this world is political to them. In the south we can disagree with your stance on things, but that doesn't mean we are going to treat you any differently.

My sister's friend from Wyoming stayed at my house for most of last week. She was very nice, polite.Talking,or mainly listening to her talk,I realized how modest most Southerners are.As far as bragging or building themselves up.It's just the way most of us were raised I guess. One of my Dad's favorite things to say was "Speak softly and carry a big stick".

I wouldn't include people from Wyoming with those from the North East or the West coast.

I recently began spending Christmas in Florida because Mrs. Durden's grandparents from Europe live there. Snowbirds from the northern states engulf those country clubs like wildfire and I have to refrain from leaving the house. I almost swung on a guy at a Publix because of how rude his yankee arse was being to the girl working behind the deli counter on Christmas Eve. Her transgression against said Yankee a-hole? She only gave his snotty kid 5 shitty chicken fingers instead of the 6 the little frick demanded.

Get off my lawn, Yankees

stereotype of Northerners being rude is very true. I've experienced it first hand. there are always exceptions but overall, people in the South are much friendlier.

It's true. I've lived in the Far North and the Deep South. Southerners, both black and white, are much friendlier and more neighborly than are northerners.
