Have you been to South County St. Louis? I don't know what you'd call it, but Yankees sure wouldn't claim it as theirs...its redneck as hell. How redneck ties in with Southern-ness or not, I leave to you cultural scientists here.

Redneck is a term originally used for farmers. That could apply to South or Midwest.

I'll grant SE Missouri cousin f'er points. Those folks could feel comfortable in a MS or AL trailer park with ease.

Not one to tell others what to do, but I'm not proud that Georgia seceeded from the U.S. and joined the C.S.A.

Don't get me wrong, I'm damn proud to be a southerner, but I'm proud of our superior food, music, athletics, etc. not proud of the war.
