Why do they keep calling the new BCS CF Playoff a Playoff?

No team gets into the playoff by winning a conference championship. A committee decides which 4 teams get to play before they start the so called playoff. How is this any better? than the BCS?

A true playoff is where you win your conference and you get to advance into a true playoff to determine the eventual Champion for that year. We do this in all other sports!

Now we have humans deciding what 4 teams get to play for the NC.
Teams should be allowed the chance to play their way into a playoff by winning their conference...Period!!! It's why we have conferences.

It's just another illegitimate way of humans picking who they think is worthy.

Aren't there like 11 conferences? Too many for a playoff like that.

I think a true playoff should be nothing but rematches or backdooring

It can be easily structured. TV money wants the largest fan bases competing for NC's. It's all about money and we are being fed this garbage to think this new format is the best. The Sports Writers are in line because they get paid by the media who wants to most fans following every game. That's all it is, pure and simple.

This isn't true in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, college hoops, baseball, etc...

You shouldn't have to win your conference, you should have to be one of the four best teams in the nation on film. Being a conference champion shouldn't mean shite, because it doesn't guarantee that you're the best team in the conference.

Another Bama illegitimate NC. The Gumps claim more than any school.

Still melting down, 18 months later. Good to see.

God this thread is such a fail.

So if LSU finishes 11-1 and is widely considered the 2nd best team in football but doesn't win the SEC, you'd be ok with some 2 loss ACC team playing in the playoff instead of LSU?

IMO this new 4 team is WAY better than the 2 team and i dont really want a full blown playoff system like they have in the NFL.

Alot of times there are 3 or 4 teams deserving of a shot at the Natty. But rarely do more than that deserve it. So to me this is perfect

The alternative is teams not even in the top ten like Mountain West, CUSA, Big East, etc have a seat at the table when:

It's quite possible, the 6 of 8 best teams in the country could come from the SEC:

East-UGA, UF, USCe

West LSU, BAMA, aTm

Or how about 6 loss Big10 champ Wisconsin or 7 loss UCLA that played in the PAC12 title game a couple years ago.

Yeah they deserve it over 1 loss LSU. Yep

But they should have kept the BCS for determining the final four.

Guys, should we clue him in on the meeting we had last fall in Destin? I think it is time.

TenTex,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but we had a meeting presided over by the REC and 13 of the 14 SEC schools, as well as representatives from the NCAA. At this meeting a range of topics were discussed but the basic theme was what policies, nomenclature, schedule changes, etc could be implemented that would cause maximum LSU fan whining, ensuring they become even more angry and bat shite crazy than they already are. I'm afraid to tell you that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I think the OP is just trying to say that there is not much difference is selecting 4 teams instead of 2 teams like they do now.

What "they" (whoever they (the people with power in CF) is) should have done is have an 8 team "Playoff". Take the 5 Champions from the 5 power conferences (SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12, and ACC) and then take 3 at large selections.

Use the current BCS formula and take the top 3 teams that didn't win a power conference and there is your College Football Playoff.

This solves all major issues and concerns anyone could possibly have. All your power conference champions are represented. A top-flight team that didn't win their conference, but is highly ranked gets in, and a team that goes 12-0 from a mid-major gets in. Everybody is satisfied.

If you then bitch about whether team #9 didn't get in over team #8, then you simply have too much time with nothing to do.

Excellent post! I'm tired of humans and polls deciding who our NC is. The media is behind it because they get paid by the revenues received by awarding all the big schools the 4 slots for a playoff.
So many football fans are too dumb to understand what is going on. If you are a big school and your team is in the mix then you are happy. That's a pretty selfish point of view. We are losing the integrity of college football championships. I for one don't mind saying so. The LSU/Bama NC game was one of the most boring ever. No one wanted to see the same 2 teams playing again except for Bama for obvious selfish fan reasons. I'm not dogging Bama here, most team fans want their team in the NC game no matter how they get there. It's all about the money folks!
