Assuming you aren't just flaming, the answer is that he had a stigma from the Lester Earl situation that took a VERY long time for him to prove that Earl flat out lied about his role. Think of it as acting like something that is a step below a show cause order in his career.

But I genuinely think that the LSU job is the one he wants to hang his hat on.

I can see that. As long as he recruits well, the talent should sustain success whether he's a good coach or not.

Two top 100 players, a forward and a center. We are trying to add a Transfer (Ricky Tarrant), but he won't be eligible next season. We are also recruiting a few guards to add to this class.

Here's hoping the SEC can get back to a 7 or 8 bid conference.

He's not. He's a good basketball guy to read on this site.

He is as loyal a person as I have ever had contact with. He has applied for the LSU coaching position the last two times it's been available and always wanted to coach here. While he was at UNT he was loyal to them. Of course LSU still held his true loyalty, but he isn't one to skip around from job to job.

Does Bama have a big recruiting class coming in?

Couple of 4-star, top 100 guys at the moment.

In all seriousness, I just saw LSU has 6 commits. Where are their scholarships going to come from? Is JJ gonna have to start processing people?

That'd be nice, wouldn't it? It's fun having good teams come in during SEC play.

how come Grant was a better coach at VCU than he has been at bama?

He took VCU to the tourney twice in 3 years at VCU.

Only once in 4 years at bama.

our last coach wasn't a fan of having a full roster, we had some open spots when JJ got here

Because he came out and said that the only way he would leave North Texas was if he was offered his dream job.

FWIW , he would have been Head coach at Memphis if they hadn't thrown money at Cal. ( he was the interim coach in a shitty situation, Memphis fans were very impressed with him)

I think so too. I haven't seen enough evidence of him messing up an in game situation for me to question his coaching ability. He also over acheived with our team this year.

But I think what helps him in recruiting is the pride he feels in being able to coach at his alma mater. It really does show through.

I think a lot of Bama fans are wondering that. He had a much more efficient offense at VCU and played at a faster tempo there than he has here. He has Alabama playing at a slower pace than Wisconsin. Without true post threats, you simply can't do that. He has the reigns held tightly on our stable of guards and it's hampering them and our offense in general. With Hipsher leaving and another assistant looking around as well, we are hopeful new guys on staff will bring in a new offensive philosophy for Grant to implement. You don't really care about the answer I provided, but here you go.

No shite, these past couple of seasons have been miserable. It's so much more fun when more people are good, even if you take a couple more losses because of it. Not to mention it helps the conference as a whole when everybody is better.

If we don't make it to the 2nd round next year, Grant will be in trouble. But if we hire Prohm, I'll lose it.

We never used the full compliment of scholarships under Trent Johnson. We had 3 seniors on scholarship and weren't filled up this past year. We were able to get John Odo in at mid term and he effectively red shirted last season. So he's been practicing with the team since January.
