Doubling your percentage of AAU schools in under 5 years would be a very big deal.

And would do what, exactly, in terms of athletic championships?

I mean, is the SEC an academic association, or an athletic association?

Would the addition of UVA to the SEC make LSU, or any other SEC school, a better academic institution?

...or have I mistakenly stumbled onto the Tigerdroppings Academic Board?

it ads nothing athletically but research money dwarfs what schools make in sports. The Big 10 has the CIC which brings in big time money. The SEC has the fairly new SECU and getting UNC/UVA to join would be a big deal.

it would also help other SEC schools long term with goals such as gaining AAU status, which again, is huge for research money.

while the football fan in me wants Va Tech b/c they are simply a better, more committed program, UVA has all the intangibles that would make them an amazing get for the conference as a whole and should be the a main target.

unfortunately, the academic stuff is probably what pulls Virginia to the Big 10 over the SEC. Both conferences are going to make gobs of money with their networks so they will likely make their decision based off the Big 10 currently being a bigger deal with research money.

Thank you.

As far as all the other shite, there is NO school that could be added to the SEC that would help LSU get out from under the ridiculous budget constraints set upon it by the legislature. THAT is what's crippling the university. That and the fact that the people of Louisiana would rather donate hundreds of millions of dollars to the athletic department instead of the endownment fund. Adding an AAU school to the SEC won't change any of that.

I'm just not buying that. You kick a school's arse in football year after year, and eventually you get AAU status?

You know how much I want to see UVA play in Tiger Stadium? Ø

A&M was a perfect choice, imo. Yes, it's a great academic institution, but it also has an excellent athletic program. And for me, when discussing an atheltic association, that is what matters.

Good thing.

This is about an association of universities. Academics should theoretically be the main goal, even if they play each other in sports. I know that's not realistic at some schools in the south. That should not be viewed as a positive thing, imo, and it's exactly the reason why most people at UVA want nothing to do with the SEC.

This attitude should not be accepted and is part of the reason why education in the deep south lags behind other areas of the country.

I love sports as much as anybody, but when schools start prioritizing sports over educational value, there needs to be a re-evaluation.

Well I think they fit a little more culturally than we might want to admit.

UVA Foxfield Races ... it's a big Horse Race to them that they attend in the spring. Based on these photos I VOTE A BIG YES TO BRINGING THEM INTO THE SEC!

FRATASTIC UVA ... FRATASTIC.

I want them in just so I have a reason to go up that way and enjoy that shite. It would be great to have us play them in baseball up there during the Races just so I would have that excuse.

You have to be extremely smart... rich.. or both to get into UVA. Its an exceptional school in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. If you havent been to Charlottesville, its in a beautiful area of the blue ridge mountains and is surrounded by southern plantations and wineries... basically, classy as frick.

Plantations & Alcohol ... yet again as an Ole Miss Grad what about that can you not love.

Well yep, that settles that. There is absolutely nothing about what you posted that would make me disagree to bringing UVA in ... actually in fact your post just confirms more that anything than we need to bring them in ASAP to further the SEC Country Club (Ole Miss, Bama, Georgia)

Anyone who seriously asks this question doesn't understand anything about conference realignment and, most likely, universities in general.

Um, we are pretty good at the country club sports too ya know.

Also, UVA and UF can play each other in women's lacrosse since we'd be the only two teams in the SEC that field that sport.

They don't sell jorts in MS do they?

I have never owned jorts and rarely see them at all during games. I hang out in the refined area though. I'm sure our sidewalkers sport them from time to time.

Virginia has a beautiful campus and surroundings, but VT would be a more natural rival for those SEC schools in close vicinity.

OM doesn't really have sidewalkers, well one that actually care about sports and not trying to further drag OM through the mud with all their racist kkk bullshite ... I digress, so we don't have to worry about that too much.

I'd probably say that y'all & Carolina would be the next to closest to being apart of the SEC Country Club.

Well y'all for one would have another true rival to add to the list, besides OM & UT, if UVA were to join.

Regardless of whether UVA joins the SEC, if any of you ever has the chance to attend Foxfield, do it without second thought. One of the better college traditions in the country.

And yes, it is the epitome of fratness. Speaking of frats, the tailgating scene at UVA for football games is almost based exclusively around the frat houses, at least for undergrads. Every house throws its own cocktail parties before the games and there is a massive crowd of people who make the 15 minute walk from Rugby Road to the stadium around kickoff. There are some alumni who will tailgate outside the stadium, but that scene is rather limited in student participation. At least it was when I was a student.
