If the country cared half as much about college baseball as the Rant, it'd be a top 10 sport.

But they don't. And it's not. Carry on.

Conference realignment has zero to do with college baseball. And that may be understating it.

you said no one in the country cares about college baseball, that's completely false when it comes to the south and the SEC. and our opinion matters the most because it's the conference you're in, who gives a shite if the Big 10 or Big 12 doesn't care about baseball, we do.

What you don't get is that last night's attendance will likely be in the top 10 for the year at Taylor Stadium.

Given the cool weather and it being Spring Break (few students around), the only reason the crowd was that good was because we were playing LSU.

The 2012 average attendance was around 800+.

The poor attendance is due to weather, due to a history of really poor promotion and advertising, and a history of being a team that's not bad but not usually a conference-leading team either (in any conference).

The promotion is improving somewhat. It will take time and money to improve facilities and to improve the team performance. The weather we can't do anything about.

My problem is the lack of season ticket sales(showing the lack of promotion that you are hinting)... MANY schools have small crowds in questionable weather early in the year, but selling 6k+ season tickets sure does make it look good in a box score.

Could be as simple as offering double or triple reward points for baseball season tickets in your booster club(points that could be applied to football or basketball priority). A couple hundred $$ for baseball season tickets that gets better seats at football and basketball games would get quite a few more people to buy -- and thus(at least occasionally) put a few more butts in seats. You've got pretty good baseball potential IMO -- just got to invest up front in making it a money-maker instead of a money pit...

Mizzou baseball will improve over the years.....now that they are in the SEC, it will HAVE to, regardless of weather. Doesn't mean they will one day have a 10K capacity stadium, but the level of competition will drive them to greater achievements...

USC fans are very proud of Carolina Stadium and how well we can pack it for games, but not too long ago we were also very proud of Sarge Fry Field, but it had a capacity of 6K. But baseball has changed for us in recent years: throughout most of the 80s and 90s we pretty much averaged under 2,000 average game attendance for our games, including after we joined the SEC.

After Tanner became our HC and we started winning more regularly the attendance started to improve, but even during our CWS years in 2002, '03, and '04 The years we averaged in the 3000s. College baseball overall has grown over the years especially in the SEC...give Mizzou a few years and we'll start seeing a jump with their popularity as well.....

I think there were more people watching at Justin's house then there was attendees at the game.

It's amazing how many of us on here live in the Springfield/Branson area. I can think of about 10 off the top of my head.

What is with all this 'popcorn'?

Are you all really thinking this subject is fascinating enough to sit back with a snack

Mizzou doesn't get baseball support, maybe you're new on the rant, but that's been established and we don't really care.

We have no shame in our football or basketball attendance, but when it comes to baseball STL people are goin to Cardinal games and KC people might choose to suffer through a Royals game.

Sorry your states don't have MLB... really, it must kinda suck.

Missouri is the Show-Me State, and the Mizzou Athletic Department will have to see proof that fans will show up enough to need a larger capacity.
