SEC WEST
A&M
Mizzou
Ark
LSU
SEC CENTRAL
Ole Miss
MSU
Bama
AUB
SEC NORTH
Vandy
Tennessee
Kentucky
Va Tech
SEC EAST
Florida
Georgia
S Carolina
N Carolina
just my .02 as I think Va Tech would strengthen the North a little over Mizzou.
East looks the strongest followed by the West and Central with the North still being the weakest, but a little less weak.

That's probably the best breakdown.

Your SEC North is too weak. It would be a contest between Va Tech and Tennessee every year for division champ.
The other conferences most years would be
Lsu v A&M (with Arky contending occasionally)
Florida v Georgia v USC
Bama v Auburn
North just seems like a weak competition compared to the others.

This alignment also makes to most geographic sense which is important so that the average fan can keep up with who is in which pod. That is one of the issues that the ACC currently has. No one outside of the ACC knows who is in which division. Plus keep them geographically together help facilitate more fan travel in between the schools, which helps foster more interest in the games.
And for the question of why use pods instead of 2 permanent divisions, you use pods so that the teams play each other at least every 3 years. Even if you do away with cross divisional rivals, you still wouldn't play every team in the other division that often.
