I doubt it.
We would know for sure when Kirby Smart took over a defense while not under Nick Saban, though.

This. No way to know.
Before Smart went to work under Saban, of course Ellis was much better. Now I am sure Smart has learned a lot, so no way to know until he gets out on his own, which won't be as a DC anyway.
