When he let it go one of you responded "good choice". You should get over it, move on, put it behind you...This is not even a topic except for that. Tigers play victim better than anyone.

Just read through the last few pages of this thread, and I've got to say that you're totally off base here. Sure, Alabama doesn't have an "object" like the Toomer's Trees, but that doesn't mean Auburn fans are wrong to be upset that they were poisoned. You obviously have no idea how attached AU fans are to that tradition, and who are you to mock them for it?

I have no idea how you think you've won this argument.

Honestly, you're coming off as the stereotypical Alabama sidewalk fan. You're being incredibly dense and arrogant, and the combination of the two just makes you seem like a jackarse. Auburn fans have the right to be pissed about losing a tradition that is dear to them, even if you don't think it's rational.

THE NtY response to this tread: The irony of this thread is amazing..

Why do a few Bama fans defend Harvey, call Auburn a made up name Boogs (origin was because an Bama bball assistant coach was caught on TV)

Caught on TV

Seriously, m2pro????

Most rational fans would have more sense than to start a flame thread about a criminal incident they profess they want to fade away.

In '73 the Rice MOB (Marching Owl Band) put on a show at halftime in College Station that was... not well received. In retaliation Aggies travelled to Houston and cut down the "Victory Tree", under which Rice football coaches had given postgame speeches after wins for a long,
quote:

long time. The Aggies took at least some of the tree (reports are cloudy here) back to A&M and burned it on the bonfire. Personally I don't see much difference between these events. The biggest difference between the two that I can see is nobody knows about the Victory Tree and you'll be hard-pressed to find any information, while the whole damn country (not just Auburn fans) went nuts over Toomer's Corner.

ESPN wasn't around back then. Nor all the msg. boards.

no i'm not. i GOT that way after boog responses.

quote:

but that doesn't mean Auburn fans are wrong to be upset that they were poisoned

didn't say they shouldn't have gotten upset. i'm saying they have belly ached for a f'king YEAR!!! and grown arse men are saying they'd shed a tear about it!!! that's TOO far. that's all i'm saying, really.

Because boss... no one has given a single inanimate object that matters to the point of saying they'd shed a tear about it if it were destroyed. hell, even BDS could go down and i wouldn't f'king CRY about it. for cripes' sake y'all. let's get a grip!

quote:

You're being incredibly dense and arrogant

dense? absolutely not. arrogant? how so? i'm not denying said allegations, but i fail to recognize how i'm being arrogant?

quote:

you seem like a jackarse

i will admit i have shown considerable amounts of jackassery. but it's very warranted.

never said they couldn't be mad or upset.... i said they shouldn't have acted THIS "hurt" for this long.

He was really just asking OTHER fan bases if there were any inanimate objects that they would actually cry over and how long it would take OTHER fan bases to get over something like this.

i ain't mad. swarrrr! but it has been awesome to have this thread go so far.

i swear, the point was to try to find an object in another fan base that would generate grown men crying about it and wanting someone dead/life in prison/etc.

since there isn't one. i guess we can put this thread to bed.

The amount of utter ridiculousness in that post is overwhelming.

Go back to the Bama Sports Board. What you've just posted is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent responses were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on the SEC Rant is now dumber for having read to it.

I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Billy Madison fan, eh?

I award YOU points for that.

I don't post much on Bama board... no one really talks on there. And ONLY bama fans makes it boring.

Don't get me wrong, I love talking Bama too... but i come to THIS board for the cross team jibber jabber.

I'll bite.

It was (and is) a tradition that was absolutely pure. It was unique and something we shared amongst ourselves that had literally no ill effect on anyone else.

I assign a lot of nostalgia to it because of the great memories of the games we rolled it after. I assign more nostalgia to it because through my years, I remember celebrating at the tree with people that were very close to me, some that are still here and some that aren't.

I don't expect anyone to understand, that isn't realistic. The issue is that we shouldn't have to defend it either. The fact that something so harmless, yet obviously very important to us, was targeted and taken out is just malicious. All there is to it.

I'm not embarrassed at all to say any of that.

ETA: To address the question tacked on to your lame arse post... is there something comparable on another SEC campus? I don't know. Doesn't sound like there is. Part of me feels sorry about that, but I chalk that up to every school and its traditions being unique. If you're bragging or making a point that no one holds something so sentimental as we do those trees, I'm not sure why that matters.

Even though no one has been able to answer it STILL..

I will tell you how much I appreciate the response. I GET that it was valuable and meaningful. Really, I do. I think most adults can identify with the meaning behind Toomer's.

And since you, being an Auburn fan can not answer this question by default/design.... can you explain to me the constant and extreme nature of responses that this has gotten?

Can you be honest and admit that it all went way too far in terms of the responses?

Btw, i am not a fan of what Updyke did... not even a SINGLE bit. but can you agree that life in prison, death, burning in hell, or the multitude of other things people have hoped for in terms of Updyke are extreme? and at the very least, even if people don't REALLY want those things for him... can we not at least all agree that even SAYING and reacting that way is a bit much?
