Crazy enough, the night before signing day, it was UCLA that was the most confidence on Thomas and the Bruins felt that four-star linebacker Kenny Young would go to Texas A&M. Thomas signed with Stanford and Young, who said he was generally torn, signed with UCLA.??

I don't always say this like some do, and I don't give a frick that it happens and know we do the same shite, but there definitely seemed to be something weird going on with Young's recruitment

yeah, lot of really odd things go on in recruiting tbh. And it's really hard to get inside the head of 17-18 yo's. No idea if something shady happened here but he never gave our staff any sort of definitive answer. We pushed Parker for one and finally got it but Young never did afaik. That's generally a bad sign.

Some random events after the fact
- Steven Parker's recruitment was fricking crazy. His dad is....different. Always would have been a problem imo. He literally was talking shite about our coaches (as well as other schools incl OU) to anyone that would listen
- Jamal Adams didn't click well with our current players and several went to Sumlin telling him not to take him (no idea what happened). Two separate events though as one happened last year and again on his OV
- That's not surprising because Brandon Simmons (who ended up at Stanford) had a massive falling out with the sips. His dad is an AAU coach (Paris and Adams are on his team) and was steering everyone away from them. The official line is he felt dissed but I think it was deeper and I think those guys just are a little full of themselves (which is often the case with high profile recruits)
- Armanti Foreman contacted our staff when Strong was hired. He wanted out. Was told upon the hire that 6 of their commits who we weren't even in contact with, reached out to us. For whatever reason, their recruits hated the hire

Yeah I had heard this. Our games vs. him and LSU will be interesting for sure as he seems to hate A&M. I foresee lots of dumb bullshite on twitter taking place.

If one of those UT recruits was named Bonney or Jason Hall I hope we followed through. Could have used one. Hopefully Strong continues to be unpopular in DFW recruiting circles though

Well, the one coach they retained recruits DFW. Also, recruiting has been changing pretty heavily in the major cities. HS coaches are having less influence and trainers are having more.

Trainers are essentially position coaches. They train all the kids in an area and it's made the high schoolers a lot more polished. DFW really leads the way in this (though Hou is quickly catching up). They get personalized coaching on technique, workouts, etc. What's happened is that a lot of the players in an area hang out and work out together even if they don't go to the same school.

So Simmons and Paris hang out with Adams all the time, not because they all went to the same school, but because they all train together year round. It's created a different kind of clique and my guess is Texas will continue to struggle recruiting DBs from DFW for a bit. Things certainly change year to year but most JR in HS look up to the elite guys from the year before and this year's clique all is very negative towards them.

They will lose to Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, UCLA, and Baylor at a minimum.

North Texas, BYU, Texas Tech, Kansas State, and TCU are tossups as well.

They could be looking at a 4-8 season.

I just feel like Texas is pushing in the wrong direction. Football in the state has changed, defense as a priority is dead. We are a state of gunslinging now.

Even Saban can't stop Big 12 offenses when they are having a good day, and he has "the process" and a pile of top 5 recruiting classes. How can Charlie do better?

Correct North Texas will win by 20.

(We have experience with this although it was a different sport. )

A lot more posters and they have several guys plugged into their program. They also are a wee bit more obsessive than we are about football.
