Missouri's Haith faces NCAA notice of allegations in Miami-Shapiro case By Jeff Goodman | College Basketball Insider January 21, 2013 3:53 pm ET The NCAA is expected to release a notice of allegations as early as this week regarding the Miami investigation. A source close to the situation told CBSSports.com that former Hurricanes and current Missouri basketball coach Frank Haith is expected to be charged with unethical conduct and failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance. Haith's unethical conduct could result in a multiple-year show-cause penalty. Former Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl received a three-year show-cause penalty after being charged with unethical conduct back in 2011 when he initially wasn't forthcoming about hosting recruits at his home on unofficial visits -- which is against NCAA rules. The source told CBSSports.com that the NCAA was unable to prove the allegation from Miami booster Nevin Shapiro that Haith or anyone on his staff paid $10,000 to a family member of former player DeQuan Jones. However, Haith will be charged with unethical conduct because the NCAA did not believe his story that payments to his assistants intended for camp money did not wind up going to repay Shapiro, who made the allegations to Yahoo Sports back in August of 2011. A source said that the money was delivered to Shapiro's mother -- who verified the payment to the NCAA. Haith will also be charged with a failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance due to impermissible airline travel that was given to the family of two players from a member of his staff and also the interaction between Shapiro and players while on visits. The source also said the three assistants previously on Haith's staff -- Jake Morton, Jorge Fernandez and Michael Schwartz -- each will receive unethical conduct charges. Morton is currently at Western Kentucky, Fernandez left Marshall after last season and Schwartz is on the Fresno State staff. Those involved in the case will have up to 90 days to respond in writing before a hearing in front of the Committee on Infractions, which likely will be held in mid-June. A decision on the penalties will be handed down to Haith, his staff and those involved in the football aspect of the investigation anywhere from 4-6 months after the hearing. The notice of allegations was expected to be released as early as Tuesday, but a source told CBSSports.com that it could be withheld for another week or two possibly because of procedural questions. "With everything that's happened recently with the Shabazz Muhammad case, the Todd McNair case in football, the governor of Pennsylvania suing the NCAA and the NCAA firing a lead investigator in this case, they want to make sure on this one," the source said. The investigation began nearly two years ago after Shapiro, who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for a $930 million Ponzi scheme, told Yahoo Sports that he gave thousands of impermissible benefits, primarily to football players, from 2002 to 2010.

Time to move on. Promote within for continuity? Fuller seems like HC material.

I'd give the job to Fuller.

Biggest question I'm concerned with is what will happen with our recruits who signed already and Post's commitment?

I do not want to lose these kids.

If true, Fuller. Do it now. Bite the bullet and start moving forward asap.

My thought too. We can't survive this lingering around. This season is already on the brink.

Wasn't Fuller the one doing bringing in most of the recruits? My impression could be wrong but I was almost more concerned about losing Fuller than Haith.

Most likely, but some of these kids talk about why they chose Mizzou and Haith's "character" and faith is usually a big reason why.

I'm not saying it's not a concern, it obviously is. My thoughts though are that if anyone can keep them committed it may be Fuller as opposed to some other hire.

Broom Haith.

Grind Alden and find out where the hire came from, seems he didn't do his due diligence on the unexpected Haith hire.

If we need to, broom Alden and let the new AD make the football changes.

I just just asking about this in another thread, about a minute before the linked release!

Guess we wait, along with HC and AD......what's next?

We are MIZZOU......waiting for the other shoe!

The NCAA is an inconsistent and hypocritical joke of an organization.

Im not saying Haith is or isnt in the wrong here but they were not able to "prove" the allegations yet they are moving forward with a show cause.

There is so much dirt that gets swept under the rug in college basketball, especially by some of the blue bloods, that this is just beyond fricking hypocrisy.

If they could back the allegations with facts then throw the book at Haith, if not, well...

frick it. Just frick it.

If Pinkel goes 5-7 and is canned at the end of next year, I wonder how many universities have had a new AD, new bball coach and staff and a new fball coach and staff all within a 1 year span.

Alden's not likely going anywhere.

I just think he needs to spend some time justifying what happened two summers ago.

I agree with you kilo. I think it's bull shite to say we have no proof but we're going to sanction you anyways because, well, we just don't believe/like you. But if it is in fact handed down, I don't want to twist in the wind with it. Move on.

There is really no possibly way that Alden could have known about this prior to hiring Haith...

Regardless of whether Alden deserves to go or not, I think we can all agree that:

Alden has not been good for our basketball program. First thing he does as AD is
1. to can our legendary Hall of Fame coach Norm Stewart. His replacement?
2. Quin FRICKING Snyder. How did that work out?
3. Then, instead of firing Snyder himself after the dumpster fire that ensued, he sends a fricking messenger to do it for him!
4. Next, hire Mike Anderson. Not a terrible hire, probably the best move he has made for the basketball program. Mike Anderson revives the program but then plateaus severely in his final two seasons. Mike Anderson sneaks out the back door for Arkansas without ever addressing players or media.
5. Alden hires Frank Haith. There is enormous backlash from the fanbase over hiring someone with a very poor track record that we've never heard of. Haith manages to have great season by using his motivated seniors to their maximum capacity. Follow up season is disappointing, marred by players not fitting into roles, blowout losses, and an NCAA SCANDAL.

From a loyal Mizzou basketball lover, FRICK YOU Mike Alden. FRICK YOU.

Norm Stewart was done when Alden canned him.. firing him brought a 25 million dollar donation from Bill Laurie.

Listen, I'm not a huge Alden fan... I bet he's the kind of guy that likes to watch his wife get double teamed, but that's neither here nor there. He's rallied the boosters and turned Mizzou around in a positive way.

There is absolutely no chance he could have known about Haith before hiring him, there is no way to blame him for this situation. He hired a guy that was the national coach of the year last year, it's not his fault Haith made poor choices before coming to Mizzou. He also has hired our most winningest football coach of all time.

I've always had a similar impression of him.
