Seriously. This is why Bama played Vandy on a near yearly basis through that era. It was a guaranteed extra SEC win.

It was only a couple of years Bama played 7 and the other teams played 6. It backfired in 1976 when UGA went to the Sugar Bowl over Bama, because Bama schedule OM as an extra game, and lost.

Alabama played as many as 8 and as few as 6 SEC teams throughout the 70's so your argument doesnt really hold a lot of water that he ALWAYS did this. It seems pretty random when you look at the number of conf games played per year.

70-7
71-7
72-8
73-8
74-6
75-6
76-7
77-7
78-6
79-6

Looks like groups of 2 years, probably caused by home and homes, with pretty random conf opponent numbers in those 2 year groups

What's Auburn/Vandy series record?....you don't want to know.
And, but the way, that extra game was Ole Miss, and they were pretty good back then.
