Go right ahead. Alabama is definitely a national team right now. But the true definition of a national team is one that gets a lot of attention by the national sports media regardless of how well they are doing. Alabama simply cannot say that this is true about their football program.
I will say that Alabama is fairly close to being a national program. You saw SI jizz all over themselves to pronounce Bama as "Back" in 2005 and things like that. But you just aren't on the level of NYY, Lakers, Cowboys, ND, etc in terms of that broad national appeal at all times no matter if the team is competing for titles or not.
And also, your characterization of me is laughable. You conveniently forget me siding with bama fans every time the 1964 debate comes up. You ignore me consistently listing Tuscaloosa as one of my favorite road trips to make, and you don't see me out here trying to argue Florida should be in the BCSCG or some other 1 loss team like K-State or Oregon like I would If I were the way you claim. I just call it like I see it and what i see when I look at Alabama fans are a group of people that are completely full of shite and hoped up on their own delusion. DWI

Yeah- Bama is definitely a national brand of sorts.
But I still whole-heartedly endorse 100% of Draconian Sanctions general assholery.

When Bama sucked they fell into an absolute black hole.
When Notre Dame sucked it was still obsessive , wall-to-wall coverage.
Bama has a nice little brand.
But it's no John F Kennedy.
If you know what I'm saying Mr. Quayle.

Here's what I found
The only thing you're proving is that you're not the only one who doesn't understand the definition of what a national brand is.
How about you link me to some articles from 2006 talking about how broad the Tide's national appeal is?

You take offense to my characterization of you, but anytime a Gump so much as disagrees with you, you characterize an entire national fanbase of millions of people.

I do remember when we went 6-5 and Ole Miss went 6-5, Ole Miss beat Alabama... Bama made a bowl game and they didn't.

And before you jump all over me, I realize comparing to Ole Miss proves nothing. It was just funny.

I guess you missed the thread where I broke the bama posters down into 5 tiers ranging from "Great fan tier" on one end to "Updyke tier" on the other.
You were much closer to the latter.

Bama has been and will continue to be a national brand in the world of college football. Cowboys, Yankees, Lakers will always have a more global following because of the cities they are in and the professional nature of their sports.

If we took a vote of every rational poster on the SECr who the best and worst posters are, you would be very near the bottom.
