It's not really all that surprising that the team that was #1 for the majority of the season got the highest TV ratings.
And has one of the largest followings in college football. Lots of college fans have their team they watch and then will follow a few other ones that they like... Alabama falls into that second category for a lot of people.

bah.. like any of this expert analysis means anything.
Facts:
1. night games pull better numbers.
2. some conferences have better coverage nationally.
3. some games throw the numbers off due to thursday games
4. some schedules are defeating in that teams have to make a game with FCS teams just to fill the schedule.
So many reason why these numbers can't be compared evenly across the board..

How does Southern Miss have better TV ratings than OM and State? Something is flawed here
0-12 Southern Miss.
I'm sure it has more to do with the timing and channel of the games more than anything.
CBS and ESPN games reach a national audience and thus have higher ratings built in. ESPN U, ESPN network, FSN, ect do not.

And they want their own network as a school.
But these ratings go to show how an SEC Network would be well received at this time.

An opportunity for a perfect season like that just draws people in man. No surprise at all.
Southern has been the best team in the state most years for the past 20 years or so. Southern is a bigger school or has been, and they're very popular in on the coast.
I don't know if I believe that number, but it's not unfathomable.
They also typically get some very watched OOC games.

Bama should have it's own network.
