They all? No, no we didn't. UNC is lame, very lame.

Ok maybe you didnt, but you probably wouldve had a better time if you did. doesnt take a tour guide to tell you that CH > Durham. Point is there were bama fans everywhere in CH that weekend considering the fact they had a game against dook not UNC

I haven't heard a peep up here about conference expansion. I don't think any of the North Carolina schools have any interest in joining the SEC anyway. Academics and college basketball are too important.

Check out the football board on inside Carolina.com. had so many emails sent to their AD that he had to respond And reaffirm commitment to the ACC. In other news Saban will not be the next head coach of Alabama

That was as much about the Big 10 rumors as the SEC ones. Besides, things work differently here. Academics are a much higher priority. The schools are reluctant to risk losing basketball revenue. Also, the governor would never allow one school to leave if it screwed over the other (doesn't affect Duke).

Almost unspeakably ridiculous. Good academics and common sense obviously aren't mutually inclusive.

Your basketball program turns about a $14 mil profit currently when all things are considered. The 2014 SEC environment will likely offer you about $50mil/yr more than you currently make in tv revenue. How much of the $14 mil profit do you necessarily lose in a move to the SEC? Only ACC TV revenue - which for basketball was approx equal to the SEC's prior to expansion. Basically, it's fiscally ridiculous to hold onto your little $17mil/yr tv contract - when we would be offering you one that probably easily pays in the $60+mil/yr range.

Is that why you are currently in the middle of the biggest academic cheating scandal in the history of the NCAA?

By all means, if you'd prefer to go to the B1G, that is your right. You will make much more money that way as well compared to your current situation. Just don't complain when we take NC State, and they basically make your football and baseball programs irrelevant overnight.

The ACC is not viable longterm. Don't kid yourself. This became obvious the day you revealed the revenue model from your addition of Syracuse and Pittsburgh. The tv money isn't there - while the B1Gnetwork is becoming a monster and the SECnetwork is getting ready to launch - and will dwarf everything by comparison.

So as I think I'm one of the few (only?) Duke alum(s) on this board I feel like adding a couple of things.

Overall, Vandy is a very similar school - academically focused private school, founded by a robber baron, larger grad student population than undergrad, etc. So as a result the overall benefits from a sports perspective would be similar to Vandy.

Unlike Vandy though, Duke supplies very large alumni contingents to the two largest MSA's on the east coast in DC and NYC (myself included). And while no university can pull a majority share of either market, Duke brings that more national appeal. Even of it is only for bball.

Also, just for the record Chapel Hill sucks, Carrboro's the best town in the area.

Duke does have a lot of alumni in those areas, but not enough to drive cable subscriptions. The only markets that would be affected by adding UNC/Duke/NCSU are Charlotte, The Triangle, The Triad, and the smaller ones around the state. Only one school has the power to drive cable subscriptions more than 150 miles outside the border of its home state and that's Notre Dame.

basketball would remain just as strong in SEC

lets pump the brakes on that one

that what I'm afraid of, in B1G our baseball becomes irrelevant and withe SEC to sell NCSU instantly becomes much more attractive to football recruits.

a move to the SEC improves all 3 of the sports people care about, a move to the B1G kills 1, hurts 1, and the other remains the same

That's part of the problem with ACC, especially where football is concerned - too many private schools. Very difficult for them to compete consistently on the gridiron. ACC has not become better at football with the addition of "football schools", but rather have managed to make those schools weaker in football.

Preppy rich jersey a-hole I might have understood but what about Duke alum screams hipster?

Still doesn't change the fact that Franklin street is overrated and that there are far more interesting venues in Carrboro or even downtown Durham than Chapel Hill.

Chapel Hill is a nice quiet area to live away from the ghetto that is most of Durham, but there really is very little to do in the town itself.

Outside of Beta and maybe 10 guys in Kappa Sig, Duke is as hipster as the Goldman Sachs trading floor.

And if you knew anything about Duke besides what you read on IC or Maryland troll sites, you'd know the pricks at Duke are from Strong Island and Fairfield County, not NJ

Franklin St is pretty solid

I agree with LawC on this one. That campus is full of "hipsters and Asians". Maybe it's so hipster they have a secret new term for it.
