People saying Tennessee is failing in recruiting is BS. Within the last 5 years we have pulled in top 10/15 classes with a complete doofus and major coaching turnover. All of our stars on this team are from across the country (Bray, Hunter, CP, James, etc.). A good coach will be able to recruit here. I don't know if Butch Jones is that guy. He could be, who knows.

Exactly. If UT could recruit top 15 classes with an idiot like Dooley, have have little doubt that it will continue to do so with a better coach in place.

At this point in Tennessee's freefall,I don't have a dog in this fight, but I live here and during my years in Knoxville you could not escape the Big Orange.

I was at LSU when Dinardo brought back the Magic with a shot heard around the world when he signed one Kevin Faulk, and the LA. pipeline was shunted from Florida and elsewhere back where it belonged in Baton Rouge, Saban and Miles were able to retain this pipeline. We all know what happened after.

So, a few names we lost or didn't pickup from our state around then for whatever reason:
Travis Minor
Brandon Stokely
Jake Dellhomme
Warrick Dunn
Peyton Manning
Eli Manning
Major Applewhite
QB from Miami
Ike Hilliard

This is not unique to Louisiana or LSU. It plays out in other states. But, this can't occur at UT, ever. This is not a coaching issue. The players in similar numbers aren't there and I way venture that national recruiting has never been more competitive. Other teams have risen since Tennessee had their downfall.

It really doesn't matter if you are getting top 15-20 classes if your competition is consistently top 5-10.As things currently stand in college football with the SEC as the big dog, until you are consistently recruiting top 5-15 with ample depth, you will be doing well to break even in SEC play. Just my 2 cents.

I guess a start would be to keep the few big names that do arise in Tennessee. Golden Tate, Harrison Smith, and ultimately Jalen Hurd.
