It really doesn't.

But I appreciated the OP because I've got to think that I'm far from the only Catholic who has that little voice inside me that makes me feel guilty for wishing any ill to Notre Dame football.

I never had that. The vast majority of the Catholics I know from back home cheer for Ohio State and I did, too, in my youth. No Catholic guilt and nobody really cared. The priest even would say "Go Bucks" a few times at the end of Mass before big games and our parish even sometimes had OSU gamewatches, never ND ones.

I think it might be a little different in the south (outside LA) where much less of the population is Catholic and the vast majority is Protestant.
