Fun fact. Texas A&M has more Catholic students than Notre Dame.

And there are more Catholics in the state of Alabama than the Vatican. A&M's enrollment is over 50,000, ND's is only about 12,000. I'd be willing to bet a lot of money LSU has more than ND, too, since they have more than 26,000 students in a largely Catholic state. But what's the percentage?

<Rushes to Google>

Old article (2003) but it's fairly high percentage:

quote:

Notre Dame’s undergraduate population has remained about 85 percent Catholic for years. To accommodate the mostly Protestant minority, Campus Ministry compiles and annually updates a list of churches and synagogues in the area. Although Notre Dame does not offer transportation, many of the churches offer to pick up students on campus.

As for this thread, it of course makes sense there are Catholics that cheer for ND just because it's a Catholic school, but it also makes sense if you don't care about ND at all, even if you're Catholic. In fact, I probably cheered for the Irish to lose more than win before I decided to go to ND. I don't think it really matters too much.
