Since 16 team conferences look like the future . Have 8, 16 team conferences 128 teams ( currently 124 ) so 4 teams can still jump to D1 ( No Independents) have 8 automatic bids and 8 at large births. 16 team playoff and college football owns the month of December. Still have bowl game for non playoff teams, and then promote the 16 team tournament " Made for Champions".

i'm thinking the whole point of the selection committee is to see that this scenario never happens.

Be awful difficult to get university presidents to accept that during the finals period for many of these universities.

Should have 4, 16 team conferences, giving a total of 64. The other 64 should form their own division.

Each conference should 4, 4 team divisions. Then the division winners of each of conference would form a 4-team playoff. The champions of each conference would form a final four. Bowls for non-division winners.
