Congrats on Ross! Hard to see him leave the state, but always nice to see a young man keep his word.

So what is everyone's thoughts? Do we keep this thread up a bit longer or do we unsticky it at this point?
Posted on 2/5/14 at 11:13 pm to reedus23
Let's give it until Friday for any discussion on the class, then let it go and focus on the 2015 thread.

Grant Jones leaning toward playing on defense (OLB/DE) but has ability to play WR/TE. Staff will let him pick where he begins

Would be nice to have some extra bodies on defense. He has great size and with added muscle could be a force on that side.

Question for y'all. We're at 91 scholarships apparently. Needing to trim 6. Demien will apparently be one of those. The question: Would Jones need a scholarship or would he get his schooling for free because his dad is an employee of the University. I know some Universities (right now, can only think of private universities though) that employees' kids don't pay to attend. Just curious if that's a possibility in trimming down the number.

Doesn't happen at Mizzou.
It's better now (slight discount for faculty kids), but the only discount I got at Mizzou was my pop's discount at the bookstore.

Got ya. Thanks 808. When I started to ask, I realized that the universities that I know of that do that are all private. Don't know if being a state school makes the difference but it kind of makes sense.

BEHIND THE STRIPES
MISSOURI SIGNEE: RB Ish Witter
By DAVID MORRISON
Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 8:50 am
Another Florida prospect, another stocky, powerful running back for Missouri.
Ish Witter makes 25 signees for the Tigers, adding to fellow Gulf Coaster Trevon Walters with the potential to add a little more power to the Tigers' backfield.
Get to know Ish Witter:
RB Ish Witter (5-8/195); Alonso (Tampa, Fla.)
247Sports: 3-star, No. 72 RB
ESPN: 3-star, No. 111 RB
Rivals: 3-star
Scout: 3-star, No. 80 RB
Other Notable Offers: Marshall, Rutgers, Syracuse
2013 stats (MaxPreps): 132 carries, 850 yards, 10 TD
Analyst’s Take: “Don’t let Witter’s size fool you. This is a Ray Rice styled running back that has deceptive power. He does a nice job of running behind his pads. He has good speed but better quickness. Witter has good vision and balance and is tough in the open field. He can make defenders look silly with his ability to plant his foot, make a cut and accelerate to top speed. Witter is also a very effective receiver out of the backfield.” – Jamie Newberg, Scout.com
Where Does He Fit?: Compact and about the same size as Russell Hansbrough, even though he gives up a little speed to the Missouri back and probably has him in strength. As mentioned above, Witter does a good job keeping his feet moving and taking advantage of cutback lanes. He and Trevon Walters can both be an infusion of power to the Tigers’ running back corps.
MU Bio: Possesses eye-catching shifting and cutting ability which caught the attention of Mizzou’s coaching staff … found the end zone throughout his career at Alonso High School for head coach Brian Emanuel, scoring 28 rushing touchdowns as a Raven … totaled 850 rushing yards and 10 scores on the ground as a senior in 2013, earning first team all-conference recognition for the second-straight year … rushed for 902 yards and six touchdowns as a junior in 2012, all while battling through a late season ankle injury … also participated in track and field at Alonso … father – Delroy Witter … chose Mizzou over Marshall, Ohio, Rutgers and Syracuse, among others … plans to major in criminal justice at the University of Missouri … enjoys reading in his spare time … noted how beautiful Mizzou’s campus was during his visit, along with the family-oriented atmosphere instilled by the Tigers’ coaches and players.
