The same defense Alabama used with great success to shut down the running threat that Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, and Denard Robinson posed.

That's cause every team you've played so far sans Florida and LSU sucks at defense and can't cover.

Usually what happens is that, because our line is so good, Manziel sits in the pocket for an eternity, the spy gets impatient and rushes upfield. Manziel then takes off and it's 20 yards before another player is in the picture.

We run a double fly, double crossing route play out of a four wide set that clears out the middle of the field. Manziel either hits Swope as he crosses the field or waits for everything to clear and then beats the spy. That stuff didnt work against Florida because they played press coverage and dropped their DEs 3-4 yards off the line to play contain. LSU, who had somewhat less success, played 5-6 DBs every play with three man lines and kept the middle of the field occupied with fast defenders. This was less effective because it still allowed us to dink and dunk with sideline routes and dump off to the backs. We also ran the ball effectively on LSU for over 6 YPC, but we stopped running as soon as LSU scored the first time. Not sure why.
