From ESPN insider:
Also, Dooley's shenanigans at the press conference today has thoroughly pissed off Dave Hart and may speed this up.
There isn't a formal offer on the table for Gruden, contrary to what Sabanocchio says, but rumors are that Tennessee will offer $5+ million per year, formally, when the position is officially vacated.

A surprise candidate may make his interest known in the Tennessee head coaching position if Derek Dooley isn't retained. Jon Gruden could leave the Monday Night Football booth to pursue another opportunity to coach. And Tennessee may be the job he is targeting.
"...the former Raiders and Buccaneers head coach has his sights on the Tennessee Volunteers job at the collegiate level," the Orange and Brown Report wrote.
Gruden may have his choice of NFL jobs if he was truly interested in coaching again. But the total control Gruden would have at the collegiate level at a premiere program just may be too enticing to deny.

How? What has the guy done that would make him a grand slam? What has he ever done that would translate to the college game better than any other talking head on tv? He would probably pull a Kiffin for a year or two (get great talent) and then the actual work of building a successful college football program would overwhelm him.
All hat, no cattle IMO.

Gruden is the dad who wears softball shorts on third base and screams at a 9 year old when he messes up a hit and run he called while up by 12 in the 5th.
