less talent better coaching than Mizzou. Coaching goes ALONG way in college!!

I have to disagree. They almost took down K-State.
Took down OSU last year. They are turning that program around. They just need some recruits and consistancy. I think they will be a force to recon with in the B12 in the future. They are a true dark horse in that they play the spoiler quite well. It's a matter of time, but they have to keep snagging decent recruits and coach them up. Or land some sleeper recruits and bust out.

If we had played Iowa State's schedule instead of ours, we could be 5-1 or 4-2 IMO and probably ranked. We've played the hardest schedule in the country to this point.

Disagree with what?
That Mizzou schedule is hands down, without a question of a doubt, had a far tougher schedule?
I understand that folks are quick to jump on a bandwagon to point at and blame the coaching staff but this comparison is just not right comparatively.

We could beat KU and maybe Baylor this year. Losses would be KState, OU, TTech, ISU,WVU,and TCU. Might beat Texas and OSU if those games were home games.

Read alittle deeper into what I said. Scheduling is only half of it. The other is coaching and recruiting.
Your just look at one part of a bigger picture.
In years past, they would have been throttled vs teams like K-State and OSU.
Yes I would agree that Mizzou has the tougher schedule, but the OP title is about Iowa State and the post is cosisting of what good coaching can do with limited recruit talent.
I personaly would think K-State is a better example. But thats my opinion. Just think what a coach like Bill Schnieder could do with a squad like Mizzou.

Well considering that the Big 12 doesn't play defense nearly as well as the SEC, I'd say that Mizzou would have at least 4 or 5 wins right now...especially considering how the Big 12 starts off the season with 3 or 4 cupcakes on the schedule.

I understand what you are saying. I'm not trying to be argumentative.
I feel like the OP is taking a shot at our coaching staff based on the "success" ISU has had this year. I dont think thats a fair comparison for a multitude of reasons. Injuries, schedule, first year in a tougher conference etc.
The lynch mobs are forming though within our fan base. I just want no part of them.
This program has made a living off of taking undervalued talent and coaching them up and having success. Of course the irony in all of this is that if this coaching staff wasnt able to coach up a less talented roster we would not be losing in the SEC this year.

I don't think these two ideas should be disagreeable, I think they're separate from each other.
ISU really is well coached. And they're doing a great job there. They're benefiting from an easy first half schedule, and that's why they are ranked.
Mizzou would probably be 4-2 or better with their schedule.. but of course that would even out eventually because we would lose to the top half of the Big12, just like it will even out for ISU. They won't finish with national ranking.

You call it taking a shot I call it bitching about a problem. I have never been a fan of the coaching since Dave Christensen left. Pinkel and the boys want to "reinvent the wheel" when it comes to coaching.
No half time adjustments (Steckel does but he is the ONLY coach on this staff).
No special team coach (It shows)!!
14 OL on scholarship and he can only play 8.
Yost has no creativity compared to Christensen. UL-Monroe's offense reminds me of Christensen's offense. Yost offense will have trouble against the "Bye" this week.
Pinkel did get us out of a long long funk but he needs to take the next step. Let's start with a little creativity.

Mizzou Strength of Schedule per Sagarin...#1 in the country. Translated we have the toughest schedule in the country! Now we are through it....
We are 3-4....a Kentucky win puts us at 4-4...and officially at the " do over" stage. What I mean by that is that of the 3 remaining games we could win 2-3 of those games and finish this rotten season with a record of 7-4 or 6-5 and be bowl eligible. I am as pissed as the next guy but the season isn't over yet. If we lose to Kentucky I'm done!
