I think it's safe to say at this point Joker is gone and the only question is when it happens.
So let's have at it. Who do you think UK will hire? Who do you want? Who are we capable of landing?

Billy Clyde? Randy Sanders?
ETA:If I was any sort of up and coming coach and UK asked me I would laugh in their face. Seriously. Right now we are so bad, we could only ruin someone's career.

There's actually some young talent on the roster. Horrible coaching but some guys that can be pretty good in a couple seasons with the right guy at the helm.

Oh, I know, but the talent we have really isn't that good. Not SEC good that is.

I think this squad is one of the better talented rosters we've had in awhile. They could be fairly successful even in the SEC with the right HC in a couple years. Especially on offense at QB, WR, and RB.
They're going to look like dogshit right now when they're true freshman playing experienced SEC talent.

Honestly they are athletes for sure. However they have done NOTHING to make me have any faith that they will develop into Good SEC players.

FWIW, and OT(sort of), but I played golf today with a guy that was seriously trying to argue why Cal should recruit and coach football as well. At first, I thought he was joking. He wasn't.

This is where I have to respectfully disagree. At the very least on offense. You have Towles drive before he got hurt that at least shows he has a hell of an arm. Whitlow isn't terrible for a true freshman. Sweat and Robinson have both looked good in the return game and at WR. George and Sanders have shown flashes of being a great RB tandem down the road. Defensively Alvin "Bud" Dupree has been in on several plays this season and is shaping up to be pretty good at LB even as a sophomore.
The cupboard isn't by any means completely bare. It's certainly in better shape talent wise then it was when Brooks took over. There's no reason a decent coach can't build on that.

I think you can use the success of the basketball program to help recruit football. I'll even go as far to say that you might be able to get Cal to help persuade some boosters to throw some money at football with some kind of basketball tie in.
But for him to recruit and coach football. Yeah, you need to surround yourself with smarter people.

Oh I can assure you that I do. My dad needed a sub in his Saturday group (about 20 people) and I got drawn to play with this clown. He's old, shitty at golf, slowest player I have ever played with and a 25 handicap.

Few coaches I wouldn't mind seeing offered the UK head coaching job
ULL Ron Hudspeth
La Tech Sonny Dykes
ULM Todd Berry
Ark State Gus Malazahn
WKU Willy Taggart
Cincy Butch Davis

I'd really like to have Sonny Dykes but the talk now is that he would want to bring Tony Franklin with him and that's not ever happening.
I don't see Taggart leaving for anyone instate because of his loyalty for WKU. I think he ends up somewhere else outside of the state but WKU would see it as a slap in the face if he came to Kentucky or to Louisville (should Strong leave).
Malzahn would be interesting. But he might be holding out to get back to Auburn.
Unfortunately when your school spends more on lights for Madness then they do in football recruiting there's no telling what they'll be willing to pony up.

Seriously? That's horrible.

It really is. In 2011 Kentucky spent $336,000 in football recruiting.
They also spent between $250,000 and $300,000 on Madness. Every year that Calipari has been at UK.
Now, I have no problem spending money for basketball because frankly it's the reason we're even talked about. And I'm sure it's easily affordable because of private donations to the program. But it's absurd when you consider if we're ever going to have talent in our football program, money is going to need to be spent to get our coaches into places outside of the state (given the lack of talent in our recruiting pool).

That's insane.
Yeah, I just looked up the numbers. The only schools that have a lower recruiting budget than Kentucky are State, South Carolina, and TAMU... Three schools in three states that have plenty of home grown talent.

Sorry Belle, did not see this thread after starting mine...
Sonny Dykes is going to hold out for a big time program (name is popping up for Arkie).
I have made it known, I think we can land Tubberville back into the SEC...I bet he is dying to get out of Lubbock and the Big 12 back to familiar surroundings of the Southeast.
Don't see the Barners shite canning Chiz, too huge of a buyout $7 million...but I do not see Gus jumping here, he may have his sights to the plains.

This seems to be the name of the week. Agreed that he will probably hold out for a better job. This thing may get really ugly.

I say we go after someone like a brooks or a Steve spurrier. we do not need another H.C. in training. If we are going to be successful again, we need someone that knows what the hell their doing.
