Maybe it's time for a RADICAL change at AU...namely, unilateral disarmament.

Hear me out:
- Clean house in the AD, starting with JJ and Tim Jackson.
- Hire a proven professional AD, one with a reputation for running a financially sound organization that turns a profit while being competitive.
- Buyout the entire football staff. That means EVERYONE in the building, save for the groundskeepers - the field looks pretty good, even as the quality of the game being played on it has declined precipitously.
- Announce contract terms and staff budget amounts publicly prior to the search. They should be a maximum of $1 million a year for the HC, with significant performance incentives. Assistants will be paid from a defined budgeted amount, with HC having total freedom to negotiate them as he sees fit. Eliminate from consideration anyone who attempts to negotiate a more lucrative deal.
- Guarantee a full five years for the HC, with total control over the entire program and staff.
- Reduce ticket prices by a minimum of 30% across the board.
- Put the several million dollars saved from the football program into the other sports.
I realize that this will almost surely result in permanent relocation of AU football to the bottom tier of the SEC - but, thanks to the ludicrous amount of TV money we will continue to receive, we will be able to increase our overall competitiveness in every other sport.
Let's face it, keeping up with the Bamas and Floridas isn't really working out for us. And we'll always have 2010.*

If we won in football every year and lost in literally every sport every year, I am sure that about 90% of our alumni base would be satisfied. Also, considering that of that remaining 10%, about 9% also cares about basketball and we can never compete against UK in bball, we still won't be competitive.
So your (the original poster's)plan to make other sportss competitive is stupid.

Damn, you guys are right. What was I thinking?
Why spend a couple of million a year on mediocrity when we can spend 7-8 million a year and go 3-9? Especially when we can continue to suck in every other major sport?
Oh, I know, we'll blow 10 million more in buyouts at the end of the season, and then go out and hire someone that will turn us into a powerhouse.
I mean, that worked last time, right?

Well, we won't get a single coach with that strategy.

You do realize that most athletic departments/other sports are funded by the money that the football team takes in from revenue sharing with the conference, ticket sales, sponsorship, etc?

Nevermind. Forget everything I just said.
Since you're giving up on Football, can I have your tickets to any games that you've got tickets for?

No need to bring politics into this. We've got enough stupidity in this thread already.

Were you also calling for a change like this after 1998 and 2008?
For fricking real.

Actually, yeah. Both times.
Went over just about as well then as it did now.
