Instructions were too difficult, I RA'd.

But no, I will be studying for mid-terms unfortunately.

Yep. Well, if my grandfather doesn't pass away this week. I know that sounds morbid, but he's close to death...so us attending the game really depends on his situation.

Short answer...yes, we'll be there.

I'll be there killz, and sorry to hear about your grandfather. For some reason I had it in my head that you were older yourself (Like 50 and above), but apparently I was wrong.

I will be there. Harboring my dark, dark secret.

I'm, umm.....

Look I'm a Mizzou fan obviously, hardcore. CoMo born and raised, been living and dying with them my whole life. Will be rooting like crazy for them this weekend.

But the thing is...

Thing is, umm, see

Well its just umm....

I'm a Vandy grad.

So, umm, yeah.

That said, I gave Vandy its fair shake for my secondary sporting allegiance back when I was there in school and there was no conflict of interest with Mizzou. They rewarded me by doing away with their athletic department and hiring Woody Widenhoffer my sophomore year. Let that sink in. So yeah, frick them. I went there for academics and as an institution academics is all they've really given a shite about up until recently. frick 'em. Mizzou is my friends and my family and my town and my team. Let's go kick those preppy little nerds' asses all the way back to the West End. I can stomach a degree of self-loathing in exchange for a critical, potentially bowl game-saving Mizzou win.

Great story and congrats on the Vandy opportunity. I might have made the same decision, if money had not been a factor in the equation. Two of my richer cousins were at Vandy while I was loving my time at Mizzou.

Thanks, fellas. He's 101 years old and he's lived in the same house his entire married life until about 3 weeks ago when he fell down the stairs and busted his knee. He ended up in the hospital and that has apparently been more mentally taxing than we all orginally thought it would be. Originally, he was to remain in the hospital to receive physical therapy and then go back home once his knee healed.

However, I think once he realized he was immobile in a hospital bed, he sort of decided that he's lived 101 really wonderful and healthy years and it's time to move on. He's very much in control of his mind and body. He just doesn't seem interested to live anymore.

He's lost interest in life, and I can't fault him. He's lived longer and healthier than 99.9 percent of all human beings, so he has the right to go when he wants. Imagine if you could simply decide when and how to die instead of letting fate determine it for you. He'll probably die soon peacefully in his sleep which is a luxury that most of us won't have the privilege to experience.

If he doesn't pass away within a few days, I'll be at the Mizzou/Vandy game this weekend.

One side note that may humor some: A few weeks ago (before his fall) he told us that he wasn't planning to die until after he witnessed Obama's defeat in November. I like to imagine that he'll hold on until election night and fulfill his destiny, but I don't see that happening considering his current state.

Kills, I'm trying to find the words to convey the appropriate sentiment to your grandad but I think it just comes down to this:

That is truly a great life and he's definitely earned the right to do whatever the heck he wants, but he actually earned that a long time ago and its a testament to him that up until just now he's always taken it as a given that he's wanted to stick around with you and your family. Good luck and God Bless.

ATX,

Thanks buddy. I appreciate it. I hope that I can live a long and healthy life too...yet I wonder how much of a blessing it really is if you've seen your friends and family (and perhaps a child) pass away before you do.

Whenever someone dies who has been a very influential individual in your life, it's a profound time. My father unexpectedly passed away 5 years ago. I view death differently now than most. Sometimes people's faith is destroyed when a loved one dies. My faith was reinforced. If you allow yourself to curse death, to blame God, for an event that is guaranteed to happen to us all, then I believe that you single handedly destroy your soul and humanity.

The only way to approach death is to embrace it, tell your loved one goodbye, and honor them by living a happy and loving life.

I will be there also. Have been to every home and away game so far this year. Last week had me sweating. No seriously I was sweating my arse off because Brighthouse Network Stadium is made of shiny aluminum and it serves as a giant reflector dish. It was really hot in that stadium.

I will be there. Was looking forward to watching DGB in action but that didn't work out so well. Mizzou should still win despite the suspensions. Next week will be gigantic with another huge invasion of Columbia. Hopefully, I can meet some of y'all while I'm visiting. M-I-Z....
