How far would Alabama/LSU fall if they lost Saban/Miles in April

The results from Arkansas and New Orleans have shown the importance of coaching. With the talent LSU and Alabama have, how much would losing their head coaches have? I tend to think Alabama would suffer more than LSU. From an outsiders perspective, Saban seems to be more like Petrino in that he is more hands on whereas Miles seems to be more of a CEO type coach.

Depends on the hire. Check LSU after Saban for context.

I will say this......I would HATE to be the guy to follow either one.
But especially Saban....the bar will be higher than Bear.
I just hope it's sooner than later.....he's already stayed longer than I thought he would

I'm talking about losing one of them when it's not feasible to hire the long term solution, similar to the situation Arkansas was in. I guess Bama could promote Kirby and still be ok.

Miles seems like a players' coach to me.

Big loss, but all depends on the next hire. In many cases, the program fell apart (or in some cases, the big name coach left the program weaker than first thought). But some programs have maintained across several coaching changes. Miami was quite successful even though they moved through several coaches in their run of dominance. LSU, as mentioned above, hasn't seem to have lost their luster. So it can be done, but it's all in who comes next. There's no such thing as a program that runs itself.

Not a fan of promoting the unproven assistant but under the circumstances you provided it is the best thing to do. Hiring Shula was similar as it was past the hiring period.

Saban would come back to LSU if we lost Miles, so we'd be fine. It's all good.

This is huge - Both Bama and LSU have assistants which could 'step up' in the event they are needed. Arkansas just didn't have any viable options.

What about the Saints? I don't know anything about their coaching staff, but surely an NFL team has assistant coaches that are capable of leading the team. While not the train wreck Arkansas has become, they are obviously struggling.

I agree with this. However when you talk about Nick Saban, to say even the best possible replacement could come in and keep it close to what he has built at bama would be misleading. Saban built something nice @ LSU but obviously something speacial over there. And I would think your recruting would drop of the instant Saban left. More kids want to play for Saban than the current college hes coaching at.
