Ears Whitworth took over the 3rd-winningest program in college football history (at the time). A program that already boasted numerous SEC titles, Rose Bowl bids, and MNC's.
In just three short years, from 1955 to 1957, he coached at Alabama, where he posted a 4–24–2 record that included a 14-game losing streak from 1955 to 1956.
He took one of the greatest programs in history and immediately turned them into one of the worst programs in the country. What other coach has done that?
It took the greatest coach in college football history to recover.
The answer is Ears Whitworth.

They're really not grasping his sucktitude. None of these other guys come close. Imagine if a coach took over a well-established program like USC or Oklahoma and suddenly started churning out winless seasons. That's what Ears did.
