Is Saban's negativity setting Bama up for another post-championship letdown?

Sometimes I wonder if Saban teams struggle following a national title because he insists that his players adapt his own personality as opposed to adjusting his philosophy to adapt to the age group of his players.

Convincing 18-22 year old kids coming off 2 national titles in 3 years that they are no good, have won nothing, are not the same team, etc is completely impossible in my opinion. Saban sounds redundant to the point that you have to wonder if the players tune out his constant grumbling and negativity in the same way that the fans do.

He is the best in the business, but repeating is the new frontier for him. Maybe it is time to try a different approach that motivates the 20 year old kid more such as "We are the best, lets make history, if you want our trophy come and take it."

We looked good Saturday, but I fear that our team will eventually start to look like past letdown teams who played scared and joyless from the lack of motivation.

I swear to God that our fans are sometimes our own worst enemy. Just enjoy the damn season.

If he was seriously worried, he would've been pissy all off-season like 2010.

Saban had a complete rambling meltdown after practice today, lecturing the media about anything and everything.

Saban's way better when he can convince his team that they are the underdog or disrespected. Not gonna have that luxury this year.

That was hardly a meltdown. That didn't even rate on his meltdown scale. I would be pissed too if my team was called "too young" all offseason and then the greatest thing since 1995 Nebraska after one game.

Oh I am. I wish Saban would do the same. I'm tired of him telling me how bad the team is with about the same sincerity as a politician saying the economy is about to bounce back.

I love a good Saban hate rant. Can you post it?

If this team lets down because Saban yelled at them too much, then they weren't going to amount to much anyway.

I don't think it was a meltdown. Think he was making a point. He's always coaching. Coaching the fans, coaching the players. He lives to fight complacency. He will always be that guy. I understand your op and there may even be something there. I'm just making the pont that I think today was completely calculated.

You and that Dore fan, that pretends to be an Alabama fan, should team up since you both want him gone.

Agree. We play great as an underdog. But like you say, we are not going to be underdogs. Maybe Saban needs to realize that kids pay more attention to ESPN than they do to locker room lectures and try to motivate the kids with how great they are and how dominant they can be. Instead he tries to pointlessly convince them they suck.

Saban doesn't need to realize anything. You're now taking your little theory a little far. Just sit back and let the man stack crystal balls for fricks sake.
