It seems like their success rarely transfers over to the pros. They get drafted high...play a few years, but don't really have the impact they had in college. Duke gets a lot of highly recruited players out of high school, but they fizzle out in the NBA too.

Are they successful in college because of the system they run?

Would you put Saban's defense in the same category as a Chip Kelly offense? Players look great in the system, but take them out of the system and they're average?

Because starting in the NFL is so average.

Yes, they're no good. Just an awesome coach. Not sure why every player drafted from Bama doesn't end up being the best one ever in the NFL. Weird.

This is the first time he has arrived and lived out some players' careers. Just wait. He was great at doing what he did with what he had. He is settled. I would watch out.

Well first off, you are comparing apples to oranges.

In college, teams like Duke have way fewer athletes and way more basketball players than a lot of other teams. This is a much better recipe for success in college with the much longer shot clock and heavy defensive play.

In the NBA, the rules changes over the last 10 years have taken defense all but out of the game. It's almost impossible to even get close to a player with the ball now and not get whistled for a foul, not to mention the 3 in the key rule and all the new goal tending rules (which were needed, just maybe not to the extent they were brought in). It's all about supercharged offense, which is much more geared for athletes than basketball players. In fact, the only real position on the court that rewards a player for being more fundamentally sound than more athletic is guard, and really only 1 of the 2 guard positions per team. You still need at least one of your guards to be able to slash to the basket.

So in all of this, teams like Duke, that put more emphasis on fundamentals and basketball playing ability than just all out athleticism all the time, arent going to have that many players transferring well into the NBA because of the vast differences in the games.

In response to your statements regarding Saban's players, about that only thing I can really say is that I think you are a fricking idiot.

Dareus, Jackson, McClain, Arenas, Deaderick, Cody, are all struggling to find work after two years.
