Hypothetical: IF A&M or Mizzou, or both somehow have successful seasons, does it help or hurt the perception of the SEC as the most dominant conference?

I think there would be no question that it would hurt the SEC's image. David Ubben would take the opportunity to milk it for all that it is worth. I think the Big 12 and every other conference want to see how A&M and Mizzou do this year, particularly Mizzou.

I will bet vital parts of my anatomy that the media response will be the same as it has always been. It will be spun by the Burnt Orange Hype Machine and ESPiN as a "down year" for the SEC and a "change of guard" for superiority of football conferences.
No way A&M (or Mizzou for that matter) could have a good football team. They have always sucked and always will suck. Must be a down year for the SEC.

An A&M/Mizzou 2012 ATL game would reverse the anti-positron gravitational vortex. Or there would be 12 fanbases with exploding heads. One or the other.

I don't think it would have any impact on the SEC's image, or least any impact that won't be massively offset by a 7th straight SEC title.

Define success.
5 (or more) conference wins?
Bowl game?
Top 3 finish in division?
Ranked at end of regular season?

I think 8 regular seasons wins for A&M, 9 for Mizzou would make people stand up and take notice. It would be an improvement for both teams on last season in the Big 12 and I think it would surpass most observers expectations for both teams

David ubben is a troll.

SEC has nothing to prove as the unquestionable elite conference in the nation. Nothing can hurt this image in just one season.

That seems reasonable.
Not gonna touch the OP's main question.

I'm just really bored, im ready for football!
Thought this was an interesting topic, that would get some real input, instead of most of the flame threads on here lately lol...
I agree, Mizzou vs A&M in the SECCG in 2012 might reverse the earths rotation.
Eye four won, wood loose it.

Ubben has beaten the "A&M and Mizzou will regret leaving the Big 12" drum louder than anyone. If either or both exceed expectations this season, he and others like him will look pretty foolish. He has gone 100% all in from the beginning on A&M and Mizzou failing.

Literally. Like in the "under a bridge" sense.

As far as Ubben goes, I'm not sure there is a a person in media who hates their alma mater more than him. I truly believe something happened when he was in Columbia that scarred him emotionally and made him an angry, bitter little troll. Maybe some sorority girls made fun of him, or more likely - someone in the athletic dept (or several someones) didn't take him seriously. Whatever it was, he hates Mizzou more than any other J-school grad I've seen. And that's saying a lot when you consider the douche canoe Dennis Dodd.

I'll put my money, and the money I don't have on option B.

Wouldn't hurt at all. The only way they'd hurt the image, is to be successful in SEC games, and stink it up with OOC games.

I don't think it is all that far fetched for Mizzou to reach. I don't think it will happen, but I won't be shocked. The only game Mizzou has, that I think they have absolutely no shot at winning is Bama.
8 might be tough for A&M being in the West though. The much tougher division and breaking in a new coach. 7 is prolly pretty likely for A&M
Might as well add this too. I predict 8 wins for Mizzou
