For Bama, Stabler and Namath are the first that spring to mind.

Today? Those guys put Stephen Garcia to shame. Stabler would have never made it to campus. Times were different then, and football players enjoyed even more of permissive attitude than they do today. Namath and Stabler's off the field exploits are even more well known than their on field exploits. Today, I don't think either of them would have made it past their junior years (NFL draft not withstanding.)

RC Slocum kicked Dante Hall off the team in 1999, mid-season. It wasn't partying or theft or anything. At the time, Hall was just a team cancer.
