So aTm should have a much larger fanbase than LSU or most of the SEC schools

Correct. And we do. But it is very recent. The size of our fanbase caught up with the size of LSU's fanbase in the late 90s. Before that, it was so much smaller, that LSU would not even play in College Station.

Of the top 10 largest fan bases in the country, only ND, Auburn, and Clemson don't have massive enrollments.

Notre Dame achieves a huge following despite a small alumni base because it is the flagship Catholic school

Auburn and Clemson are in states with no professional sports and lots of sports fans.

None of these exceptions apply to A&M. If A&M was ever going to get one of the largest fan bases in the country, it was going to have to do it through an alumni base. And that alumni base is JUST NOW filling up.

I don't see why this is so hard to understand.

We played in College Station in 1987, 1989, 1991, 1993 and 1995, all of which were earlier than "the late 90s".
