The "Missouri Waltz" - how do I square my Yankeehood with our game anthem???

So everyone knows we Missourians up here are a bunch of no-good, "soda pop" drinkin', parka wearing, basketball and pro sports obsessed, Lincoln-loving
, atheistic, high school stadium having, God Damned Yankees. It's just a fact of nature. But I need the SEC Rant's help. Because I'm having the damndest time squaring all that with the "Missouri Waltz", which you all will be hearing at games for the first time in coming years. The Mizzou band plays this hymn at the start of the fourth quarter in every game, and the entire Mizzou crowd raises its arms and sways them back and forth in blissful Northern unity. Only I'm reading these lyrics and they don't sound one damn bit Northern to me. WHAT THE HELL???
THE MISSOURI WALTZ
Hear that mournful melody,
It just haunts you the whole day long,
And you wander in dreams back to Dixie, it seems,
When you hear that old time song.
Hush-a-bye ma baby, go to sleep on Mommy's knee,
Journey back to Dixieland in dreams again with me;
It seems like your Mommy is there once again,
And the old folks were strummin' that same old refrain.
Way down in Missouri where I learned this lullaby,
When the stars were blinkin' and the moon was climbin' high,
Seems I hear voices low, as in days long ago,
Singin' hush-a-bye.
As if that wasn't enough of a punch to the gut, I am just now pulling my head out of my own arse enough to discover the county where Columbia MO is located and where I grew up has for many generations been referred to as "Little Dixie" and still refers to it that way on some road signs and what not. And that the Mizzou band played "Dixie" at games up through the 1960s. WHAT? WHAT THE HELL? How in the hell is a true blue Yankee like me supposed to look myself in the mirror anymore after coming to this realization?
Oh, the huge manatee. What's next? I'm gonna find out that I've actually been calling that carbonated beverage "coke" all these years? I'm gonna start eating Krystals rather than White Castles? I'm gonna start telling people that life is like a box of chocolates? WHERE DOES THIS END? Aaaahhhh!!

I'd call that a pretty solid analysis.

Actually no, I did not mention Mizzou and Texas A&M's time spent as members of the Big 12.

So your Mommy caught you trying to read a couple times and made you stop? Sounds like Alabama right there indeed.

Hey Mizzou...my parents live in Little Dixie so I know the truth about CeMo. You see in the SEC we have to find reasons to despise our opponents even if those reasons have no factual basis. Like the new inmate, until you prove yourself by kicking the shite out of a badass in the yard then you can expect very little in the way of respect. Enjoy your inaugural season in the SEC.
