Is State's RPI too low for them to be legit host contenders?

They have a chance to make some noise with UF and UK left on their schedule. I doubt they do, but if they were to go 4-2 or 5-1 and finish 2nd in the west what are their chances of hosting?

If we go 5-1 to end the season it will put us 36-19 which will have us on the borderline of hosting. It will depend on the SEC tourney.

State's RPI Saturday morning was 23 (not too far from Top 16), then State beat Bama, and it worsened to 28. Then State lost to Bama and it worsened more to 38. After going 1-1.

State has 6 games against Top 10 RPI teams. Just going 3-3 will improve State's RPI a good bit (just like going 1-1 dropped our RPI from 23 to 38). So yeah, if State went 5-1 and maybe even 4-2, our RPI would improve back within the Top 20, and we would be ranked close to or in the Top 16, too (we're #25 now).

But that's a big if.

IF they win both those series and go 4-2 overall, I can see them being in the discussion.

Kendall Rodgers mentioned State as a dark horse for hosting on the RebelVision broadcast of the Sunday LSU/Ole Miss game which I thought was awesome.

State will probably go 2-4 in these last 2 series.

This is a rebuilding year- just being a 2-seed in a Regional is overachieving this season.

Next year we will be hard to deal with.

No a-hole it's not

Football and Baseball is on the rise
Basketball isnt

In baseball- we are only going to lose 3-4 guys off of this team. We are loaded with Sophs and Freshmen. We will be much better next year

They would have to pass up Arkansas(we're in and our on projections) and possibly Ole Miss to get into the regional host discussion, and that would take a heck of an effort the next two weekends and some help from Ole Miss and Arkansas. It could happen though if they could put it together for a couple weekends straight.

Arkansas
RPI - 8
SOS - 7
Record: 34-15(12-12)
vs Top 100: 16-13

Remaining schedule: vs Auburn, vs LaTech, @ Tennessee

Ole Miss
RPI - 20
SOS - 12
Record: 31-18(11-13)
vs Top 100: 16-15

Remaining schedule: vs Tennessee, @ Arkansas St, @ Vanderbilt

Mississippi St
RPI - 38
SOS - 39
Record: 30-18(12-12)
vs Top 100: 14-16

Remaining schedule: @ Florida, vs UCA, vs Kentucky

It's not like you're the only one sporting a young team.

Arkansas has 3 seniors
LSU has 5 seniors
Florida has 5 seniors(but they have a shite load of JRs that will leave)

just depends on talent and coaching.
