In response to the "Favorite SEC player of all time" thread, I would like to point out 2 of my favorite SEC players: Chucky Mullins of Ole Miss, and Brad Gaines of Vanderbilt. I made a separate thread because today is the anniversary of Chuckys death. He passed away in 1991 after an accident in a 1989 game against Vandy left him a quadriplegic.

If you do not know the story of Chucky and Brad, I urge you all to watch the video linked below. It's a story that hits you right in the heart. And a good reminder that, even though as fans we may hate/dislike each other, in the end it is only a game. And these two men knew that.

RIP Chucky

Yeah that's a hard video to watch.

Watch the documentary "Undefeated" The Story of Chucky Mullins.

I got the chance to meet and shake Chuckys hand back in 90 at an OM and Memphis (I think) game. Hard to believe it's been over 20 years.

Damn....that's some sad stuff.

I can't even imagine the kind of guilt that guy must have felt. I doubt that's something you ever get past.

I don't know if they still have it or not, but Ole Miss kept one locker in the locker room for Chucky. It had his jersey, etc in it. But that was in Starnes Center before we built our IPF.

I just wonder if they still have it in there.

I always bawl when I see that story. Enough can't be said for the tragedy and the ensuing sportsmanship and humanity that followed.

Thanks for bumping this back up. I'd love for more people to see the video and know this incredible story.

I was at the game when Mullins got hit and was paralyzed. It was very sobering.

They retired Chucks # in 2006 didn't they? Don't the winners wear a patch now or something?

that's correct, but they decided to go back to the jersey last season, which was the right move, imo.

Oh they did? Didn't know that. I think it's a better tribute to Chucky than just a patch. #38 will always be on that field with or without someone else wearing it
