Holy crap. If this turns out to be true, Arky is way more financially set than I thought when it comes to athletics, and they are going to throw a monkey wrench into any coaching contracts that are coming up.

I just find it unlikely. He could have taken the Miami job before news of the scandal broke. There's a good chance he could take either the Notre Dame job or Tennessee job next year, and he has far more of a connection to either school or than he has to Arkansas, and I'm pretty sure he could get an NFL job if he was really interested. Him choosing Arkansas just wouldn't make sense to me.
For the most part I agree except I will point out, Miami is a terrible job right now and will be as long as Donna Shalala is running the show there.

Gruden has personality and cred. I'm sure that alone would make him a good recruiter.

I think if he takes the Arkansas job, it will be to get back to Tennesee. Here's why
1. Tennessee is not looking for a coach right now, they probaly will be next year or the year after.
2. His new contract goes into effect in September with espn and has a ridiculous buyout. The buyout is so high it will take him out of any future coaching search.
3. Arkansas is a pretty good gig this year. The offense is loaded, the defense, well we'll see. But he will have lots of exposure and his wife will be 4 hours from her momma.

I agree. I think he would be a much better coach in college football than the NFL. HE would fit in well in the SEC with the current coaches and he would be hard to beat. I just think he will be at Tennessee next year.

It's true, at least from what I'm hearing. This has been in the works for a few days.
Festus, you would be surprised how much we could pay without even thinking about it.
Long knows he had to hit this hire out of the park.

You would be shocked at the money here, it makes me sick/jealous sometimes. The challenge, all of those donors with big $$$ are very, very demanding. Some of them, I simply downright hate. (I am a lifelong resident of Benton County, Bentonville is the county seat).

Watching his QB Camp show makes me want to go play for him.

If a coach is good enough to win a Super Bowl, he's more than good enough to win a national title, as long as he can recruit.
I've talked to a few people who have coached in both, and player management, parents, NCAA rules, blah blah are all very different. Obviously, recruiting would be good for the first couple of years, but past that, he'll have to prove himself in the league. I was just curious if he'd actually done that, because college and NFL don't always translate. Obviously, sometimes they do, but it's definitely not anything that's a foregone conclusion.

Just like Petrino wasn't going to be fired.

I agree, some guys fit better in NFL and some better in College. Of course, the pinnacle of any career is in the SEC.

I hope they do get him. Good personality. Decent coach. We need more personalities.

You'd think they'd build a dental school.

He wasn't. Things changed the day the firing went down, but I wasn't here that day to post. Hawgeye had it covered though.

Well no, Texas competes with Harvard, Yale and MIT in regards to endowments.
We simply have some extremely wealthy people and a high percentage of them for our population base. And that kind of $$$ doesn't fit with the image some have of Arkansas.

Well, CFB wise, for sure.
