When you look at an offer list for a player, what are some of the teams you like to see offer at those positions.

As a Florida fan, I like to see...

QB- USC, Arkansas (under Petrino)
RB- USC, Alabama, Auburn
WR- USC, Oklahoma, South Carolina
OL- Wisconsin, Michigan, Alabama
DL- Alabama, LSU, Ohio State
LB- Alabama, Florida State, Texas
DB- Alabama, LSU, USC

Also, if UF is recruiting a kid from another state, I really like to see the in-state power offer. If not, that's an immediate red flag to me for multiple reasons.

Considering Pinkel's success with Qb's you can throw Mizzou's name up there with USC and Arkansas w/ BP.

We haven't had a bad QB in Pinkel's tenure at Mizzou. He also coached Mark Brunell and Billy Joe Tolliver at Washington.

This doesn't apply for Missouri since were usually picking through the leftovers in Texas or Florida.

But when we don't offer a Missouri kid it's usually a good sign that kid can't play.

I usually don't pay attention because it's subjective and the offer lists are mostly wrong and overstated. Obviously you have a strong opinion on USC's evaluation skills and in terms of history and the success stories I'd agree but you're overlooking the busts they've had as well.

QB-typically the only success they've had is the current starter. Their depth is usually not very good which means they miss on 3-4 out of 5 and they don't take guys that aren't highly rated.

RB-too many to name. Go take a look at their depth for this coming season. Curtis Mcneal and a converted LB who just got hurt. What happened to the "superstar" Baxter and all the other studs they've recruited?

WR-not a lot of argument here other than the fact that the kids they've got now (Woods,Farmer,Lee) could've gone anywhere they wanted so it wasn't like they found some hidden gem. As a matter of fact they didn't want Lee most of the cycle because he wanted to play WR. They liked him at S.

Also USC is different now than under Carroll. Kiffin and co offer multiple times more kids than Carroll did. Carroll had basically a Texas like offerlist of 30 or less and still landed great players. He focused in on the kids he wanted and got them most of the time. Kiffin will have close to 100 offers out for 17 or so spots. Much different. Kiffin also takes more chances on kids with character issues. Imo the next 5- 6 years will determine just how good an evaluator that staff is. If they breeze through the limitations then they've hit more than missed. If not then they're skills are overrated.

Not saying you're wrong for your thoughts or that you're even offbase because your mostly right imo. Just stating that people only look at the success stories and not the busts. Most schools have more busts than successes.

I'm not really basing my thoughts on this coming year. It's more so a list over the past few years. Either way, I see your point.

Not trying to be a homer but I'd put Texas in the DB category as well. Akina consistently puts guys in the league and he knows what to look for in guys

Yeah, but Bama offers about 150 guys at least every year with the vast majority not having a legit committable offer so not sure what that says about their offer lists.

For QB, how about UGA? They have done a pretty damn good job over the last decade with their picks, even the three stars. Really the only miss was Joe Cox- JT3 was as much a legacy as any real evaluation. Mettenberger's "heads" got in the way of athleticism, but he will probably turn out fine at LSU. I was more impressed with Mason and Lemay than I expected at G Day game- they had some very, very nice touch passes out in the flats.

UGA does a very good job of evaluating talent at the QB position, in my opinion. JT3 got an offer due to his last name, let's be honest, even though he had offers from a couple of other SEC schools. Joe Cox helped secure MoMass and he had put up gaudy numbers in HS. Stafford should've started from day one and ended up replacing JT3; Murray should've started over Cox as a true frosh.

Anyway, yes, UGA offers pretty damn good QBs.

I don't look at offers that way. Our track record in state has been phenomenal in evaluating talent and most of the time, getting them to come here. So when we get a guy from LA I trust the coaches, regardless of the offer list.

When we head to Texas, I'm usually looking at if Texas offered. And if not, who else they got and who else is vying for the guy's service. Usually the usual Big 12 subjects remain and maybe some random school in the SEC or USC but I usually don't worry about those schools that much just because it's not often that a kid with that many offers strays too far. Like I said, you could probably find multiple examples because Texas produces a lot of top players (Mario Edwards for instance) but it's not the norm.

In Mississippi, I usually look to see what part of the state he's from before I wonder what our odds are. Northern portion of the state has multiple SEC schools far closer than LSU so I usually give them an automatic advantage.

In Georgia, it's a mixed bag. I don't really look to see UGA offered, just the plethora of overall offers. Same for Florida. Usually look to see if one of the big three offered just to manage expectations but usually that isn't the barometer.

To answer your question though, I don't look to who offered outside of maybe quarterback. If a top notch quarterback coach offers, I pay more attention. But it has nothing to do with the actual school. And I don't look to any other coaches for any gauge.

An offer is a lot different than a commitable offer. I mean the latter in the OP.

I notice the Absence of the mention of Texas A&M in any of these posts?

I understand but hope we can upgrade our commitments to the four and five star ranked category with mentions of the suggested schools as offers.

Our fan base does not yet understand that our previous coaches the past 20 years were using our large three star recruitment, bringing our total commitments up to 25-28 every year, as a coverup excuse to falsely inflate our recruiing class rankings but resulted in lousy performance on the field!

There is little correlation with our recruiting class rankings the last 20 years and our finishing out of the top ten teams on the field for the last 16 years and out of the top 25 teams for 12 of those last 16 years including last season(Associated Press)!

We must start now to do better!
