Why? He recruited pretty damn well too. He wasn't a half bad coach either. He just couldn't keep his prick in his pants, or hire a staff that was competent. That, and he let boosters become too influential.

I miss his 3,4 win seasons. IIRC he never beat UT.

He and Shula have been my two favorite head coaches at Alabama.

I bet the rest of the SEC missed Curley.
I'm going to punch you in the vag the next time I see you.

Are any of you old enough to even remember Mike Dubose as a coach or recruiter? Those weren't his downfalls. His off-the-field actions and inability to be a strong leader were.

I'm absolutely old enough to. You can talk about his skills as a defensive coordinator all you want, but being a strong leader, hiring assistants, managing your personal life and the team off the field - these things are of equal importance as x's and o's for a head coach. His record speaks for itself. He was a complete failure as a head coach. That's why he started this thread. That's why I responded that way to your post.

yes & i also remember him and his 0 & 10 record as a high school coach after his brief tenure at alabama.

That was at Northview. He went to Luverne and had some success, before getting back into college football. He had some success at Milsaps (non-scholarship). Regardless, all of this is pointless, relative to the OP's intent. LSU didn't have that much success against Mike Dubose. He was 2-2 versus LSU.

Nick Saban is our coach now. The OP was a joke referencing this, saying it makes him miss Dubose. It blows my mind that you either disagree with or don't understand this.

So many people on here like to completely re-write history because of the lack of success of coaches such as Mike Dubose, Dennis Franchione, and Mike Shula.

Actually Fran I was real high on,the other two,not so much...

No one is re-writing history. Dubose ran the program into the ground. You can blame it on off the field issues, boosters, etc...it all goes back to a lack of leadership, which is the most important thing. He was a failure. Nick Saban is the best coach in the game today. It's very simple.

Some of you are looking at this all wrong. If LSU fan was going to go with an Alabama coach to return, it should be Mike Shula. Mike Dubose was 2-2 against LSU. Mike Shula was 0-4.
