I did not know he had cancer. He was the FB coach at SLU when I was there. He is a wonderful man and a great person to work with. I wish him the best.

Our family friend was his wife's very close friend. He's doing well.

I'm glad to hear that. He was the first coach at SLU when we brought back football. It was spring training during my senior year when I worked with him. He has a great personality and a great sense of humor.

He resigned for cheating at Kentucky. Other than that, I suppose he is a great person.

His wife went to LSU, and is good good friends with one of our family friends there. I think he's the victim of bad circumstances and bad coaching choices, and is an incredibly wonderful man.

So did Jackie Sherrill, but that doesn't make him a bad person.

Cheaters can not be wonderful people from where I come from.

Paterno said, when asked why he continued to coach for so long, "I don't want to leave coaching to the Jackie Sherrill's and Barry Switzer's of the world".

It is only cheating when you get caught at it. If not caught, it is called doing a good job.

And what Paterno did was worse. But that's not what this thread is about. So, I'll leave it at that.

Losing 20 scholarships does not happen without getting caught. He cheated!

He took full responsibility for choices that his assistants made, and stepped down. I was always under the impression that he was more guilty of turning a blind eye and having his head in the sand rather than being a cheater, but I could be wrong. All I know is that everyone who meets him thinks he's a good man who made really bad decisions.

That was my impression. I had a preconceived opionon of him before I met him. After the first day of practice, that changed. I will say again, he is a great guy. He is very outgoing, which is almost rare when dealing with football coaches in their work setting.

He is SO incredibly sweet. And his wife was devastated when they had to leave Kentucky.

So we can sum it by saying that he is a nice guy, but was complicit in allowing his assistants to cheat and cost his school 19 scholarships?
