I never met his wife.

It was the first team after SLU brought back football. He had a lot on his hands and he dealt with it all so great. When they would frick up, he would always say " act like you've been here before, oh wait, you haven't.". He was super nice to the trainers as well.

Yep. I'd say that sums it up. He has a lot of respect among those who have coached for him and has a fairly impressive coaching tree, as those things go. He's been very loyal to people. Maybe to a fault.

But that's not what this thread is about. So, I'll leave it at that.

Can you think of a more vilified football coach in recent history than was Jackie Sherrill (Jackal - as many people liked to call him)?

I think he's the victim of bad circumstances and bad coaching choices, and is an incredibly wonderful man.

I actually know the Grad Assistant Coach that was instructed by him and the staff...and no, Mumme is not a victim...he was encouraging it.

And, his wife also suffered cancer as well.

Yes. I know. She had breast cancer. I'm just saying what I know about him personally. I've asked his wife's best friend about the situation, and so all that I know about it is from that angle.

What...that locker room was a madhouse...defensive staff going at it vs the offensive staff. Mumme and Major (d-coordinator) hated each other...and Hal Morris was plotting on turning in Mumme for the scandal going after the head coaching job.

Mumme had a fractured staff.

Listen...Mumme is a great guy if I met him...but I know a ton of folks that were part of team or on the coaching staff when he was a coach....he did not run a great program...coaches hated each other towards his run at UK....and he was not innocent in the scandal.

I'm sure you know more about it. Again. A close family friend was his wife's sorority sister and is still one of her best friends, so any information I have about him is through all of the people who know them, or who have worked with him in other capacities. I've always heard the same things about him.

Well great. I'm sure you're right. I'm not sure anyone here is saying that he ran a great program. I think what we are saying is that he's a good guy that got caught up in a bad situation and made bad decisions. I don't know what you are reading here, or where you think anyone has said anything else. He's a coach in the middle of nowhere, but he has a lot of loyal people who respect him.

I don't understand the argument here.

It is all good.

I just want to make it clear, he left a major mess on UK's hands. And the AD at the time is also to blame (Ivy).
