First, this is not a BenchMcElroy alter - we already know who that is. And before anyone comes in and tells me about how good McElwain has been, I understand that Alabama has scored more points in the past four years than ever before. I get that. But it hasn't been enough.
I went back and collected all of the official NCAA red zone statistics from 2008-2011. Over that four year period, Alabama was 96th in the country in touchdown percentage in the redzone, scoring touchdowns on only 55.7% of the time. That was 11th worst in the SEC, better than only Vandy.
During that time, only two things were constant: McElwain called the plays, and Nick was head coach. We've had different quarterbacks, receivers, running backs, offensive line personnel, and different position coaches. You have to put that on McElwain.

Bama never had more productive offenses in it's history. McElwain did a terrific job.

Alabama's offense the past few years set all kinds of school records. Passing yards in a season, rushing yards in a season, points scored in a season. The players were very well coached. I'll take the red zone percentage with those titles, bro.

Damn--I thought LSU fans were tough on their coaches!! I'll take McElwain at LSU anyday

you better duck... I tried to start a thread like this once but no one here agrees with us. However, I said that we would be successful if we went back to play action & incorporated the TEs... I was right.

Alahunter's right....McElwain's a loss no matter what kind of stats you pull up. Also, he's a really good QB coach. We're definitely gonna miss him!!

The only time Bama's offense was ever more productive was in 1945 when they averaged over 40 a game. And that was 1945 fwiw.

well he does ahve 2 titles under his belt... but i do agree that at times mcelwain play calling drove me crazy. as for being the most productive years ever for bama, how many other schools can say the same in the last 4 seasons? i'm guessing a lot of them so this isn't per se anything special other than the game changing.

Why is redzone important?
Pts scored, TOP, yardage, TO, are the important stats. Redzone is useless.

Speaking of offensive coordinators...how did Bruce Arians end up with that cushy gig as the Steelers coordinator? You might remember him as the goof who called the pass to Ed Scissum in the 97 Iron Bowl and then he was fired/left.

So we score all our points from outside the 20, who gives a frick as long as we score. I guess I've kind of just accepted the fact the entire football field is our red zone and that we could take it to house on any given play, and I'm okay with that and will continue to be okay with that on the Nuss Bus.

Galatically stupid title, & I got progressively more stupid as I read it.
You've won 12, 14, 10, & 12 games in the 4 years he's been there, right?
48 games in 4 years...AVERAGING 12 wins per year, with two brand-new starters in both of your National Championship Years that he's responsible for grooming.
Like it or not, in your two biggest games of the year, we took your biggest weapon away. You took a loss in the 1st one because of it. In the 2nd, he went to his QB & beat us with him in convincing fashion when Trent really had another sub-par game (the late 30+ yarder that was the killshot put him at 90+, so he really did have a sub-par effort).
You cannot possibly be so stupid as to think a guy that won 2 rings with two 1st year starters, averaged 12 wins a year & went to two SEC Championship Games is over-rated & also think that you're glad to see him go.
Can you?

I did and replied, or are you talking since yesterday?

I would think he would have been worth it for you guys solely off of his gameplan in the title game.

Well, damn. I usually go by what comes through on my phone. It's not on there so I just assumed you hadn't sent it, but I did get it. I'll send it out Monday.
