OP has mad skills - posts a topical article about a recent event and somehow makes it about Auburn.

OF only those players, Alabama had a player drafted at almost every position: QB, RB, TE, WR, OT, OG, C, DT, DE, OLB, ILB, S, CB. No fullback. That's pretty amazing.
That's one of my favorite years, but I still hate that Alabama won it at the cost of LSU.

Legit Titles
This probably belongs in the other thread, but I have to ask about your assertion re: legit titles. Are the others you excluded not legit due to losses in bowl games?
Do you apply the same logic to the Heisman? By your count, how many Heismans are legit?
re: Former 5 star Alabama WR Chris Black to transfer

I've always been a big fan, and will pull for him wherever he chooses to go (even Auburn).
I can't remember what year, or even if it was a single year, but he and Blake Sims had seemed to have developed a rapport. Sims would come in for mop-up and Black would be his go-to option. So much so that I thought he could potentially overtake Christion Jones sometime in '14. But that obviously didn't happen.
Anyway, good luck to the guy. He still has a lot of potential.

I know right? Really was weird.
I've never been to a game at an opponent's stadium, but I imagine far worse things happen at away games every week.

This was my first ever experience with shitty fans, and it wasn't event at the game. A couple hours after the game, I was with my dad running some errands in Irondale(Birmnigham), walking from our car to a a store in a mall. Some guys in a lifted truck drove by, saw me in my Alabama sweatshirt, cursed at me and threw shite at me (lettuce IIRC).
It really pissed my dad off and he's not even a football fan. I was young (not yet 13), and it didn't really upset me, but I will always remember the experience.
What really stands out in my memory isn't really the game itself or even the atmosphere. That was the first year I really started following Alabama football. Alabama entered that game undefeated and ranked fairly high (#2? I don't remember exactly), and nobody in my family was giving Auburn a shot. After three straight losses to Auburn, Alabama was finally gonna turn it around.
I do remember the final score, I think: 30-20. Alabama went on to be embarrassed by Miami (kinda like 2013 - undefeated, lose to Auburn, then lose in the bowl). Alabama won the next three Iron Bowls, but didn't have any success in Auburn itself. They lost again in 93, 95, and 97. It was crazy - it was like Jordan Hare had some mystique about it and Alabama just couldn't win there.

sophomore slumps happen. Julio took a step back in his second year.
Exactly what I was going to say.
I just hope this slump doesn't last the whole year. Fortunately though, we have much more talent at receiver to take up the slack than we did in 09.

Ryan Mallet, Aaron Murray, Tim Tebow, and Stafford come to mind.
You must remember things differently than I. Mallet almost beat us (2nd play in 2010 was a long swing pass for a TD where Lester missed the tackle). Aaron Murray really did have an oustanding SECCG. And Stafford was incredible in the 2nd half of the 08 game.
In fact, I don't see much difference between 2008 Alabama/Georgia and 2012 Alabama/A&M. In '08, Alabama surged to a 31 point halftime lead, and barely held on. In 2012, A&M scored 20 only to barely hold on.
We like to thump our chests and believe that if Yeldon had not fumbled or AJ thrown the INT late in the game, Alabama defeats A&M in 2012. The same could be said or UGA in 2008.

I dont think alabama is gonna be willing to do that. Seems they always have 2 and the rest are simply used for mop up duty.
2012 ended up being a two-back offense, but that was mostly due to injury. Fowler and Hart both had ACL's early in the year. Prior to their injuries, each had a distinct role in the offense.

Not a knock against Bama, but why would 4 talented backs who might start at other schools go to Bama and sit the bench? I can see taking 1-2 backs a year, but 4 in one year, plus guys on the roster? Just seems like a waste of talent to me
I'm an Alabama fan, and I ask myself the same question. Most Alabama fans will reply with some bullshite about not being afraid of competition, but the fact remains the position is crowded. There simply aren't enough touches to go around, unless Alabama all of a sudden decides its going to run 100 plays a game.

Friend of mine in Sunday School at the time was friends with Dabo Swinney's sister. Remember,Swinney (may be misspelling his name-apologies)was the coach who signaled in that play in Auburn. Guy said Swinney pleaded with Arians not to run that play and could not find DuBose anywhere --- remember,he didn't wear a headset in '97.Dabo finally gave up and called it to Kitchens.
That's a great story. Thanks for sharing.

I don't know why Alabama fans are getting so pissy about this thread. This was a huge win for Kentucky.
I remember working over the weekend, listening to this game on the radio. I had every belief that Alabama would pull it out, but it just didn't happen.
Didn't Kentucky block a FG attempt and return it for a touchdown in this game?
And for the record, I was huge Couch fan when he was at UK.

re: Anybody else watching the 2010 Bama @ SC replay on Sport South?
Posted by Gumpalicious on 1/23/13 at 7:44 am
I haven't rewatched this game since the original broadcast. I was disgusted with the offensive line's performance in that game. Sure, the defense couldn't stop SC, but the offense didn't pull its own weight.
Great game by SC. I really didn't mind losing that game. Alabama had a long winning streak, and it had to end at some point. It was somewhat of a relief to finally drop a game.

Great post. I'm six years younger than you, so I don't remember a thing of the Bryant years. I don't even remember his death. So my "fandom" has always been framed against Bryan't shadow, and to me the Stallings era my was own mini-Bryant.
Non-Alabama fans: would you have believed it 6 years ago?
Posted by Gumpalicious on 1/7/13 at 1:42 pm
Serious question - six years ago, would anyone have believed that Alabama would have done the following:
* Losses to UL Monroe, and Utah (got those out of the way first)
* 3 sec CG appearances
* 2 sec titles
* 2 (maybe 3) BCS titles
* 3 BCS CG appearances
* Since 2008, a record of 60 and 7
Especially after the post-Stallings decade(1997-2006), who really believed Alabama was capable of going on such a run?

I'd say as solid as they come. One of the analysts on BOL said that the kid is *completely loyal* to MSU and is not looking around.
When BOL doesn't think there's a chance, there's not a chance lol.

re: What Bama players played in all 3 BCS title games
Posted by Gumpalicious on 12/5/12 at 9:17 am
Mosley was a true freshman in 10, so he missed the 09 game. Nico was on the 09 team, as a TF. Square was on the team, but didn't play due to a torn ACL he suffered earlier in the year.
Barrett Jones played right guard, and Michael Williams played as well. In fact, Williams was unprepared for the onsides kick in the 09 title game. I don't think Warmack actually played.
Fluker, AJ were both on the team, but redshirted that year.

re: Better RB Gurley or Yeldon
Posted by Gumpalicious on 11/24/12 at 11:35 pm
I love Yeldon. Absolutely love him. But Gurley reminds me of Trent. I'll take Yeldon simply because he plays for Alabama, but if it were the other way around, I'd take Gurley. The guy is a stud.
And the same goes for Hill. Great backs, all three.
