Better to cab it. Are you staying at the Hilton Riverside? That's the LSU team hotel....Or a Hilton Garden Inn?

I will be arriving at the train station and staying at the Hilton. I plan on going to the casino, game and bourbon street. Here is a map. Tell me what streets are not safe. TIA
Just stay on Bourbon street and if somebody asks you where you "where you got your shoes at?". Then just give them the $20 and run away.

The train/bus station is a little over a mile I would say from the Hilton Riverside. But as is the case in most cities the bus/train station area is a little "depressed".

I think you just came up with a name for the next cool drink shooter. The "crazy Updyke". Ingredients like jagamister, tequila and sprinkled pepper.

Everything inside the borders of your labeled destinations is what I would consider to be safe. The neighborhood on the other side of the Pontchartrain Expy from the train station is an absolute war zone. I'm not sure there is a worse neighborhood in the country.

Yeah, short cab ride then. Definitely not worth the walk. The Hilton Garden Inn on Convention Center Blvd is very close to the main Hilton, but I wouldn't want to make that walk (from the train station).....Probably just a five or ten minute cab ride though.

Thanks. I'm staying at the place labeled A. Can you recommend some good bars and places to eat that are close? I really want to eat some oysters and crawfish while I am down.

Don't venture across N. Rampart from the Quarter. That's the Iberville projects. In fact stay in the more touristy areas of the Quarter(Bourbon to the river, Iberville to about Dumaine). The exception is Decatur is generally safe for the length of it. Most of the crime occurs in the more residential areas because it's quieter and darker.
If you head towards the Quarter from the casino, use N. Peters right by Canal Place shopping center(across Canal st. from casino). At times, Canal St. around Bourbon can get dodgy.
From your hotel to the casino is fine especially along convention center blvd. Stick with Poydras St. when headed to the Dome.

This one's kinda dumb:
Most people visit the city in two's and there's no reason to avoid Bourbon Street or the rest of the Quarter if it's just you and your spouse or sweetie. Just go where the crowds are, don't wander past Rampart St... your chances of trouble are virtually zero.
When it's time to go to the game just walk past the casino on South Peters to Poydras then up to the Dome. Lots of people and safe.

* Bourbon street is fun IF you are in a group. Even locals know not to go down there with just a couple of people. I would recommend having at least 3 people in your group. Never stray by yourself, you are only asking for trouble.

Drago's in the Hilton Riverside for Charbroilded Oysters. Cafe Adelaide in the Lowes hotel across from casino is very good. Coop's down Decatur has, imo the richest most flavorful gumbo in town. Their "seafood pasta" kicks arse and it's more reasonably priced than other restaurants in the area.

There are so many of both it won't matter. Some cool bars are Ernst Cafe, Vic's Kangaroo Bar and Lucy's. Places to eat Rio Mar, La Boca, Cochon, Emeril's, Tommy's... the list goes on.

The best place downtown is probably Remoulade, best place in the city is Casamento's uptown.

Not worth it right now. Small and expensive.
