Does Mark Richt Have To Save Himself And Georgia This Year?

Sorry i think I almost hijacked
another thread with this question, but does Georgia have to come out early and 'swinging' colloquially, by beating Boise State? Or will Mark get a pass because they are Boise State? I would say Georgia is right there on the brink of returning to SEC elite or the abyss of the SEC, where Tennessee is right now.
Georgia fans in particular, what is Marks status right now? What does he have to do this year, at the bare minimum, to keep his job?

I hope they stay happy with him so we don't have to add them to the list of teams to worry about.

i think UGA could start 2-0 or 0-2. if 0-2, i think Richt is still fine because they should be underdogs in both games. the real test will be OM & MSU back to back. the Dawg need to win both those games.... then a win at UT and they'll be back on track, maybe still in the race for the SEC-E. UGA will be interesting because they are capable of beating anyone on their schedule, but at the same, they could lose a lot of games if they don't find a groove.

Does this include 'Nick Saban's Bama?

Here's my take. We don't have to beat Boise, it's not totally necessary because they aren't an SEC team. Personally, I think 10 wins and/or the east is the benchmark. 8-4 regardless of the wins and losses should be grounds for dismissal. 9-3 is very iffy, it'll depend on how we've played.
I think the bottom line is that we just need to show SIGNIFICANT improvement over the past few years. I don't think you can definitively put a win total that he must meet.

SC, UT, and UF are the biggies that will define our season, IMO.

1-1. So I guess you only need to be half way worried.
And ftr, the Almighty Saban is only 3-2 against Richt. And 2 of those 3 wins were in the same year, a year that LSU won the national title.

But beating Boise Stae would be so cool...It would put to rest so much...It would validate past champions getting the nod over Boise...and most importantly it would clear up the picture for this year significantly...
And move us close and closer and inevitably to BCS Armageddon with a few other OOC upsets, namely, that LSU and Alabama will simply have to play in a rematch for the NC this year

We're better than MSU too and it's in Athens. We'll go 2-0 in those games.
Start giving MSU some credit before you play this game, especially if you are going into undefeated, because they are better than people think

It would be tremendous, it would also kind of signal that we're heading in the right direction. But then what happens if we lose to SC the next week? Now we've dropped in the polls again, that goodwill we just built up is now gone, and we're 0-1 in the SEC. SC is far more significant to Richt's career than Boise is, IMO.

Really???
I think we are very evenly matched. What other than home field do you believe gives Georgia the edge over State?

I think Boise is getting UGA at a bad time. With the bulldog nation having a chip on their shoulder feeling that they have to prove their worth as an elite SEC team Boise may possibly take a beating in this game. Hopefully Richt won't be so pass happy here and just play a physical football game and if they do I just don't see them beating UGA.

This. This game could easily be over for Boise State by the 3rd quarter if this happens.

I'll give them credit when it's due. They were good last year, but nothing special. They finished 5th in the west, and the only thing they hung their hats on was beating UGA and UF, who were both having the worst seasons in years. Big deal.
Look at last year's game. We didn't have AJ, we were in game 4 of a brand new defense, our QB was in his 4th career game, we had no running game, it was on the road, and it was STILL a one possession game with like 5 minutes left. I just don't see any way we're going to be nearly that bad this year and they're going to be that much better, plus it's in Athens.

I sort of agree and disagree with that. Like you said they're getting us while we're backed into a corner and we have everything to prove and nothing to lose. We will come out swinging with our hair on fire for sure. But at the same time, this just isn't the Georgia of the early/mid 2000s. So if we lose it'll be "OMG Boise beat GEORGIA!!!" when in reality, we've been an average/bad football team the past few years.
It'll be interesting to see how it plays out for sure.

I touched on it in another post. Homefield does make a difference, plus all the other stuff I said. Also don't act like not having Diaz isn't going to make a difference. We were pretty darn evenly matched last year with our ton of shortcomings. I just don't see yall improving more than us...especially since I think we'll be much better than last year.

Do you realize State returns 17 Starters and Every skill player???
I hope UGA over looks us like you are. We are going to be pretty good this year, a lot better than you are giving us credit for.
And if UGA would hace been in the west who could they have best other than maybe Ole Miss.
