Just a question of interest to LSU fans.
We know John Bond beat us from 1980 to 1983.
LSUSports.net has a "D Smith" listed in the boxscore for 1986, but doesn't have any boxscores older than that year.
So who was QB in 1984 when LSU lost its 5th straight to the Bulldogs and lost out on an SEC title, even though it was vacated from the Gators?

Had to look it up, but Don Smith was the starter for MSU in 1984 (who?).

Damn. And he had to have been either a freshman or a sophomore too.

Yeah ... Emory Bellard and his flexbone gave LSU fits.

Ole Miss fans would trade in family members for a 5gm win streak vs LSU.

upon further review, I think it was Orlando Lundie, who was an All-State QB in 1982 at Bogalusa. He scored on an 8 yd td for one of their scores.

"Brush with fame": Don Smith once borrowed my then girlfriend/now wife's notes for a class.
He was a good QB for us, and would have done really well in a spread option offense. He was Pat White-like. Played RB for 4 years in the NFL, scoring a TD for Buffalo in a Super Bowl.

Emory Bellard passed away a couple months ago at his home in Texas...he had been battling throat cancer, I believe.
RIP, Coach

I will have to check, but I think he beat John Bond for the starting position. Bond didn't even start his senior year. Not 100% sure, but I think I'm right.

Bond started all 4 years- Smith did get some playing time though and also played some RB-WR
