Year of the quarterback? Really, ESPN? When's the last time that we haven't had a quarterback that every team thinks is worth taking in the top 5? Blaine Gabbert as the potential top pick? I'm not buying in.
This is, in no way, the year of the quarterback.
What does the rant think?

well, i guess we should look at previous drafts and see how it stacks up.

I agree. All I read about is how all of the top quarterbacks are flawed/unpolished in some way or another.
If Andrew Luck had declared or if Jake Locker didn't suck his senior season, then maybe this would be a QB heavy year. Neither of those happened though, so I would say ESPN is stretching there...
ETA: for clarification, i'm agreeing with OP not ESPN.

I did. There isn't the same top-tier talent that we've had the last few drafts. 2008 is probably the shallowest of the last five years and they still had matt ryan and joe flacco come out first round.
This year you've got Newton, Gabbert, and Locker as likely first-rounders. No one has a consensus on the likelihood of the success these players will achieve in the pros, and only Newton had a really impressive final season... but a lot of his success stemmed from the run. There isn't a sure thing. Then there's Dalton, Mallett, and Kaepernick. Mallett could do well, but none of them are anything really special either.

It's not the draft theme
It has been ESPN's football theme all year
they've called everything this year "The Year of the Quarterback"
ETA am I really the only one that watches ESPN on the reg?

This year has the worst crop of quarterbacks since the year with Jamarcus Russell and Brady Quinn.

I'd buy that.
I think it should be the year of the DE if anything.
Da'quan Bowers
Robert Quinn
Aldon Smith
JJ Watt
Ryan Kerrigan
Cam Jordan
Justin Houston
Brooks Reed
Cameron Heyward
and that's all guys that are likely to go 1st round no even including guys that have a chance too
