Ryan Mallet in the draft:

Cowherd had a big segment today about how he wouldn't touch Mallet in the draft due to the off field "issues" that all the NFL writers seem to be alluding to and dancing around in their columns (e.g. Peter King). I know he did get the one public intox arrest, but does anyone in Arky know if any of this shite has any substance? I'm wondering if a NFL team that likes him is spreading rumors so that he will drop to them later in the round.

come on man, you can take one look at RM's teeth and confirm that he is not on meth.
No doubt he smokes a little weed and is a wanker, but big deal.
I personally think he should sue some of these people for defamation of character.

A guy who wrote an article on Mallett said he had two sources who said they have witnessed Mallett taking drugs. The writer would not say anything about his sources, other than that he trusts them.
The writer is a piece of shite from Arkansas who is trying to turn his crappy sports writing into a career, and is using the Mallett "off the field issues" as a ticket to recognition from bigger national writers who cite his crap.
Does/did Mallet use drugs? There's no more credible evidence out there that Mallett's used drugs than there is for McElRoy. That's not to say it's not possible, but the presumption should be that he doesn't have such off the field issues until proven otherwise. Most other players are given that presumption, but the cocky white guy who talks a little black and plays for Petrino is not given this presumption, even though the only thing out there that's solid is that he had a public intox a couple years ago.

LOL maybe he should sue you for defamation of character. Unless you know that for certain, you are intentionally lying about Mallett's character when you say "no doubt he smokes a little weed."

Who is the writer? Once the season ended I quit keeping up with Mallett.
TIA.

This complete lack of any credible evidence makes me think this may be a combination of douchy sportswriter rumors and NFL smoke screens. A 3 year old public intox charge doesn't generate this kind of "off the field issues" for anyone else. And it is not like he left Michigan due to drugs (like Randy Moss left FSU), he left because the new coach wasn't likely to use him. If this happened in England, which has much stonger libel laws, he could sue the crap out of these people with the "sources".

Oh, the irony.

Apparently there are these random sources who hang out with mallett and watched him do drugs...however he never failed a drug test and has never been arrested for drugs. Everyone's main argument isn't that he has done drugs because most people have but it is that he is a drug addict.....If he is passing all his drug tests and all you can come up with are two witnesses then you probably aren't dealing with a big time drug addict.

The flagship tests the shipmates for substance abuse, those who failed were suspended from games and such.
Mallett was never suspended. His off the field "issues" involve one public intox and internet rumors...
In the past we have had huge stoners, that everyone knew liked to blaze that shite everyday. Never mentioned before the draft...

This + the media needs a bad guy, and Mallett's the best they got so they hammer him with rumors and allegations while spending 1% of the time talking about his actual body of work and abilities.

it's amazing how nobody can give proof of anything. seriously-i'm so over this stupid shite. furthermore, fricking show me one school where one athlete entering the draft has never touched a drug. gtfo.

I saw this response from an Auburn fan coming from a mile away.
Cam's dad solicited money, that's a fact. Ryan Mallett using drugs has never been proven or admitted to. Apples and oranges.

I didn't realize Cecil was entering the draft? Sure hope Mark Ingram's frick-up dad doesn't cast a shadow over him.

I heard the rumors long before they were in the media but i didn't ever see mallett on dickson (I'm there a lot, people from arkansas would be surprised about the most frequent bball player to visit dickson) or at parties or doin lines off strippers.

let's be honest
If Mallett looked like Kirk Herbstriet instead of an extra from Deliverance he would probably not get labeled as a sketchy type or maybe drug user
he looks the part and that hurts him more than anything more substantial

I know we all rip on each other's coaches but Petrino is a hard arse. No denying that. If there was an inkling that RM was a drug abuser, or wasn't fit to lead the team you can damn well bet he wouldn't be playing QB for BP.
