This is not a flame at all but an honest question. What makes people think you guys have a chance to be so good, i.e. #1 preseason, next year? From my admittedly not fully educated perspective you still don't have an established quarterback, you just lost your most productive offensive player and if I'm not mistaken you lose your three best players and leaders on defense. I'm sure there are young talented players behind those guys but Sheppard, Peterson, and Nevis are not going to be easy to replace.

Ford and that other RB are probably good places to start.

They will have a New QB and New OC.

That's the recipe for success

Jefferson is LSU's established quarterback, and things clicked for him again the 2nd half of this season

Losing Ridley doesn't mean much for LSU, there are guys with more talent behind him

LSU played 5 freshmen in the secondary that showed a ton of promise.

And Nevis was a really good player, but c'mon man LSU is loaded to the brim with stud defensive linemen

ehhh, get off your high horse already.

you had your year. congrats. you won the NC because of Cam, because AU paid him.

Keep in mind you play us in BR next year.....without a Cam.

Nevis, Shep, and PP were leaders, but we are absolutely stacked on D, not worried. Ridley is easily replaceable. We are 5 deep with talent at RB. We have the youngest and most badass up and coming secondary in the country.

OC situation is being worked out and JJ will be pushed greatly by Mett.

you will feel our wrath soon enough.

I think we're a top ten team, not #1

for these reasons

you just lost your most productive offensive player

that i'm not worried about

Compared to '07, the Tigers are far advanced in both areas. It can easily be argued that the loss of Russel, Bowe and Davis(3 first round picks) from the '06 offense was looked upon by many as being far more insurmountable for a team predicted by many to vie for the BCS title. Along came Flynn,(2 previous starts), Hester, Doucet, Lafell and Dickson to set most of the major offensive records in LSU's books. Even if Ridley goes, the returning backs are plenty talented to run behind the best Oline since '07. JJ, JL and Mettenberger have a ton more experience combined than Flynn and RP had. Toliver is a big loss but many feel Randle is already better and a host of very talentd receivers join him. Defensively, well most of the 20 freshmen who played in the Cotton Bowl were defensive guys. Superior young talent, will be bolstered by a bigger defensive front and the fastest corp of linebackers in the SEC. BTW, I don't personally pick the Tigers to be #1 but you asked how many(including talking heads) feel they are worthy for that status. FWIW, the biggest shoes to fill are those of Jasper, the nation's leader in FG and possibly the best ST player in LSU's history.

The same line of thinking that makes most Auburn fans I talk to think Auburn is not going to miss a beat with Trotter and not Cammy Cam

#1 seems too high to me, top 5 maybe too high

Top 10 seems like common sense tho

We lost some playmakers on defense and are apparently losing Ridley but return most of the team

Is top 5 a fair expectation by the end of next year? Maybe, maybe not depending on what Oregon and the rest of the SEC looks like

But I'd be disappointed to see LSU finish outside the top 10

LSU won eleven games with almost no play from the QB position.

Think about it. Our QB threw for 6 TDs in the regular season and we won 11. Amazing.

LSU has done it before...2007 was preseason # 2 and did it.

LSU has also come from the pack...aka...the 2003 season.

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE LSU IS PRESEASON RANKED, THEY CAN GET IT DONE...fact
